ELA is getting "SPOOKY"
We are back from fall break and ready to get spooky with a couple of stories from Edgar Allan Poe we chose for the students. Before we left, the students learned about finding a theme in a story. We are going to now learn about finding the tone and mood in a story, and there will also be a heavier focus on narrative writing. We are also preparing something special for the students in regards to the “Day of the Dead”. Don’t worry though; it is a multicultural celebration where those who had left us from this planet are remembered and celebrated.
Math is Scientific!!!
Students have been working hard on projects, learning fun songs and nailing down important skills in math. For the last couple weeks we have been working on Exponents and Scientific Notation. We will be moving into solving equations when we return from Fall Break. Also, Mrs. Johnson is back.
Road to the American Revolution in US History
In US History we have moved from British Colonies to the Road to Revolution. We are learning about the taxes that the English levied on the Americans and the outrage that it caused! We have also learned about the Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party and created Wanted Posters online for the signers of the Declaration of Independence. This is a very important time in our nation's history and I'm glad to report the kids have bought into the same arguments that the patriots did in the 1770's!!!
Art Focus on Fire Safety Projects
8th Grade art students participated in the TN Fire Marshal Fire Prevention poster contest. The top 10 posters will be selected for the citizens of Sweetwater to vote for their #1. More information on that will be out soon so keep a check on the school and city facebook page. Art students are in the beginning stages of drawing their self portrait in the style of Chuck Close. This lesson will take several weeks to complete, but it is well worth it! I am still taking art studio fee and now collecting Art Club membership if students wish to join. Art club will begin meeting soon:)
