Our district has worked to develop a clear Why and that is to Engage, Equip, and Empower each student to reach their full potential. Over the past 4 months we have discuss and discovered our personal Whys. We have talked about why we teach history and why we think it is important for students to learn about society and change and the people and events from the past.
The next step in our work, discovering the WHAT, has already begun. This conversation started when we began to uncover our Power Standards and create Learning Targets. This work continues as we decipher the Power Standards for the remaining units of study and collaborate to create Learning Targets.
Deciding what to teach and to what depth can be very challenging in Social Studies Courses. Finding a clear focus will help us to be successful!
This short article emphasizes the importance of Power Standards and reminds us of the key steps in determining them!
