TWE Weekly Newsletter
10-15-18
Principal's Pointers
The month of October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. We will include information for you in our e-News newsletters this month to help you understand this learning difference better. There is an attachment this week which provides some valuable information.
Student Active Threat Response Training:
Attached you will find a letter from the KISD Office of Emergency Management regarding how our district is preparing for active threat events. At TWE, we have trained our staff and conducted drills with our students that are developmentally appropriate. The attachment contains the video used to train our staff for your review. This video is not appropriate for sharing with the majority of elementary students. You should make the decision about sharing it with your child, carefully considering their maturity level. We do not want children to feel anxious about being at school. Our teachers are trained to keep your child safe. If you have questions, please contact your child’s grade level Assistant Principal.
Class and Staff Member of the Week:
This week, Mrs. Cipresso’s 1st grade class was named the K-2 Class of the Week and Ms. Bankston’s 3rd grade class was named for grades 3-5. School Nurse, Lisa Terbrock, was named as Staff Member of the Week. Congratulations to everyone!

A Message from the Library:
KG & 1st
2 x 2 Reading Program
For those who wish to participate, the link to the 2 x 2 sheet is on the TWE Library website at: http://www.katyisd.org/campus/TWE/Pages/Library.aspx
2nd
2nd Grade is also participating in their own reading program. That sheet can also be found on the TWE Library website.
Please talk to your student about what they are reading and guide them in making "just right" choices.
3rd, 4th, & 5th
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have started Library Makerspaces. Many of our makerspaces are possible due to parent donations, including craft room items, rainbow loom materials, scrap-booking materials, or even toys and games that are no longer being used at home. If these are items you would like to rehome to the TWE Library, feel free to drop them off at the TWE front office. To learn why makerspaces in the school library is important and beneficial for your students, be sure to CHECK OUT (library pun!) this article:
