March 11 & 12 Synchronous Remote Learning Days
The health and safety of our students and staff remains our District’s top priority, and one step we’ve taken is to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to all our staff. Most D45 staff members who have partnered with District 45 to receive the COVID-19 vaccination will receive second doses on March 10 and March 11. As the District has consulted with other districts and learned what impact the second vaccine may have on staff attendance, it was determined that schedule changes should be implemented.
As a proactive measure due to a potentially high number of staff absences, Thursday, March 11 and Friday, March 12 will be used as Synchronous Remote Learning Days. Synchronous remote learning occurs when there is a scheduled time for the teacher and students to meet virtually and instruction is delivered in real time. Onsite attendance will not occur on these days, and the below schedule of class times will be implemented.
If a teacher is too ill to teach via synchronous learning, your child’s teacher will communicate with your family and will share an asynchronous learning plan for the day. We appreciate everyone’s continued support and understanding as we work together to keep our staff and students as safe as possible.
End of 3rd Quarter Grading Reminders
The end of 3rd quarter is quickly approaching. If you have not marked your calendar yet, 3rd quarter ends March 19. All assignments, projects, makeups, and any items that are included in your child's final grade must be completed and submitted by this Friday, March 12.
Help your child succeed by having him/her check PowerSchool to see all grading information (assignments, assessments, projects, etc.). Any assignments marked with an orange exclamation point are considered missing and should be completed and submitted to your child's teacher(s). Please make sure your child notifies any teachers of missing work that has been submitted for credit. As always, contact your child's teachers directly with any specific questions.
5Essentials Survey Reminder
The Illinois 5Essentials parent survey is being conducted now through April 2, 2021, in District 45. The Survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish.
Please note:
Parents with more than one (1) child attending the same school may elect to participate multiple times.
Parents with children enrolled in multiple schools may participate in the survey for each school.
Only one parent per household may participate.
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey helps us understand the conditions at our school and guides improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child(ren).
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, please visit https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.

Student Academic Support Period
We continue to offer a Student Academic Support Period for both in-person and remote learners. Student Academic Support periods take place on alternate days for AM and PM students during students' asynchronous work time. Below is the alternating day schedule outline:
- PM in-person and remote learners can access Student Academic Support periods on A days (odd period days) during AM asynchronous work time.
- AM in-person and remote learners can access Student Academic Support periods on B days (even period days) during PM asynchronous work time.
Specific Academic Support period session times and meeting links are available in your child's Google Classrooms. As a reminder, Student Academic Support periods are not intended for parents/guardians. If you would like to connect with your child's teachers at any time, please email the teacher(s) directly.
Curbside Book Pickup
LRC curbside book pickup is still available our remote learners. Hours are now flexible and can be scheduled at the convenience of our remote Jackson families' schedules. A reminder of the checkout process, including our flexible pickup procedures, is as follows:
- Students use Destiny Discover to select books and place them on hold for pickup.
- Students complete a form indicating the day and time they will be picking up their book(s).
- Pickup takes place at the LRC door (Door #13) located at the back of the building.
We hope you find this process convenient to meet the needs of families, as we want to support and encourage our students and their reading. In-person learners will still continue to check out books using Destiny Discover. Books will be delivered to students' classrooms. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Jilek, our LRC Specialist, at tjilek@d45.org.
