Hello, ROYALS Community!
Our ROYAL Learners have been focusing on learning the QUIST Way through our smart start plans. Through this process, we begin developing the foundation for our Learning Environment. A critical initial step in creating a community of learners. An environment where each and every student feels connected. Driving our mission of Developing Hearts and Minds. All deserve and should expect a Responsive, Safe environment grounded in relationships and service. Collectively our community of learners can support, encourage, and help each other meet their goals.
I want to provide some insight regarding a challenge impacting our community. Currently, we have a Chromebook Charger shortage, which has left some students without a charger. We are diligently working to address this matter and ensure all ROYALS have a device, case, and charger. There was a high percentage of damaged devices and chargers at the end of last year impacting our inventory. Further complicated by global supply chain issues and shipment delays. Regardless of the challenges, it is unacceptable and we are committed to getting it corrected. The equipment has been ordered and will be given to students as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to come together as a community and ensure all students have the tools needed to be successful. We appreciate your support and grace as we work through this challenge together.
We have a busy schedule ahead of us from athletics games starting to 6th and 7th Grade Outdoor Education planning and fundraising. All important parts in providing enrichment opportunities to our students. Thank you to all of you that have volunteered or signed up to help, for supporting fundraisers, and for making opportunities possible for our ROYALS.
- 6th-grade Outdoor Education Permission Slips/Medical forms are due on 9/1.
- 7th-grade Outdoor Education Permission Slips/Medical forms are due on 9/2.
- Our Chocolate Fundraiser Ends of 9/2
We hope you have a great weekend.

Here is what you need to know at the beginning of the season.
Uniforms, locks, & lockers were handed out this week. Please encourage your athlete to use their lockers and lock up their valuable items. Locks & lockers are optional.
First contests - Volleyball vs Overland Trail (A = home, B/C = away), Aug 30, 5:00 pm. Football vs Stuart - away, August 31. All season dates are on our school calendar.
Volleyball - we are in need of a "team Mom/dad/family person" to help organize the end-of-season celebration. The school will provide pizza for the athletes; I need help organizing donations of drinks/sweets/salty yummies to round out the celebration. I also need help designing certificates that will be printed at school.
Football - I have a "team Mom/dad/family person". If you would like to help, please send me an email.
Individual and group pictures will be taken by Natalie Beck. Purchase is optional and here is the online flyer. Football will take pictures on September 6. Volleyball will take pictures on August 26.
Much of this information is also on our website, on the athletics page.
How much do seasons cost?
Athletes are asked to pay $150 in-district ($195 out-of-district) per sport. Families who qualify for free/reduced lunch are charged $25. Fees will be assigned when registration closes. Fees can be paid either online or by check, brought to the office.
What equipment is required?
Football - school provides padded pants, shoulder pads, helmet, game jersey. Families provide non-metal turf cleats, mouthguard, water bottle, practice jersey (recommended), athletic support (cup), shorts/tshirts for required practices w/o pads.
Volleyball - school provides jersey. Families provide dark shorts (these could be the tighter fitting volleyball shorts, or looser fitting shorts - I encourage athletes to feel comfortable), non-marking shoes, water bottle, practice attire (tshirt, shorts), any mouth/eye protection is up to family discretion.
What are the requirements to start practice?
Please secure a current physical for your athlete. No practice or participation in contests can occur without one. Physicals are good for 364 calendar days from date of physical. All physicals need a statement from a healthcare provider that states the student is cleared to participate in athletics.
All fees/fines must be paid before athletes can participate in any contests or continue with the season.
What about COVID? We are waiting for guidance from CDPHE and planning to have a complete cycle of practices and contests.
Are there tryouts? No, we offer participation to any and all athletes, regardless of skill level. That being said, our teams can be larger than other schools. Our coaches do their best to provide equal access to practice and contests.
What about eligibility? Eligibility will be based on two different criteria - grades or RISE/ROAR. On Thursday of every week, eligibility will be pulled and determined by grades in classes. At this point, if a student has a Cs/1 D which is considered Not Yet proficient on learning targets in any class (meaning they have 5-7 pts in our Proficiency Grading System = See Grading in Student Handbook) they are encouraged to obtain an eligibility rubric from their coach or the office.
A student will be considered ineligible and unable to participate for the following reasons:Athlete has multiple Ds or 1 or more Fs in their classes.
Athlete has an F in one or two classes and the rubric demonstrates a non-proficient rating in either class.
Athlete who has multiple Ds or 1 or more Fs and fails to turn in a signed rubric to the coach.
Athlete who is not demonstrating RISE/ROAR in their classes; behavior that results in either in-school or out-of-school suspension.
Eligibility rubrics allow students to rate themselves and conference with the teacher to determine if the student has demonstrated the learner behaviors needed to be a learner, even if their grade may not reflect that in the moment. Please see our Student Handbook for a digital copy of our Eligibility Rubric, which includes additional information.
Family Meeting - happened on August 17, 5:45 - the slides are on our school website, Athletics Page.
Practice began Tuesday, August 16, from 4:45 - 6:15. Football is required to practice w/o pads/helmets for several days. Volleyball will check out uniforms during the first week.
Locks and lockers will be encouraged, and not required. Athletes are still responsible for all their belongings. Access to school lockers after practice/contest will not be allowed.
Contest schedules are on our website. Football will function as one team, so all eligible players will attend all contests. Volleyball will have a 3 tier system (A - competitive, B - developing, C - introducing) B & C teams will travel together. Coaches will be making decisions about the roster before the first game. In future emails, I will include the next week's contest schedule.
Whew! That is so much information. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns. Thank you for your support and for sharing your amazing student athletes with us here at Quist
We are looking forward to great seasons and a great year!
