APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
As most of you know, April is Autism Awareness month, and while STAAR somewhat took away the launch of April, we still have a few weeks this month to get involved and still raise awareness among our own ACE Stallions. Over the next few days, we will have some important facts about Autism to share with our staff and students, and we would like to designate Tuesday, April 12th as ACE's day to #LightItUpBlue in support of #AutismAwareness. Please spread the word and alert your students when facts are announced about Autism in the upcoming announcements.
MUCH APPRECIATION TO YOU
Thank you isn't even close enough to expressing our appreciation to ALL of our staff members and students for making sure our first STAAR administration went smoothly. We know that EVERY SINGLE STALLION contributed to the success of our procedures, and so many of you did so seamlessly and without even flinching. Seriously, thank you for helping us make the testing as successful as it could be! Your cooperation, your support, and most importantly, your understanding created a strong sense of urgency for our fourth and fifth graders and their states of mind were incredibly set for the tests. We are confident that we will be ready for the BIG STAAR in May. THANKS TO YOU ALL!!
In appreciation for all you've been doing to keep up with data analysis and reteach schedules, as well as accommodating our student needs with our altered TELPAS and STAAR schedules, we are canceling this week's staff meeting on April 7th. Woo-Hoo!
Our staff meeting next week on April 14th is a mandatory meeting for all 3-6 staff members as we will be doing our testing-specific STAAR training for the administration in May. If you know you are involved (or MIGHT be involved) with the STAAR administration, please plan on being there OR you will need to make the session up at another time/date.
TUTORING RESUMES THIS WEEK
Please make sure students are aware early in the day so that they can make the necessary phone calls.
LIBRARY AND COMPUTER LAB SCHEDULE NEXT WEEK
We are back to normal schedules in both the library and computer lab! Woo hoo! Let's hear it for some normalcy!
FUTURE PLANNING - START DATE FOR RISD STAFF FOR 2016-2017
The district released dates for next year for returning staff. Back to School professional development will begin on Thursday, August 11th and will occur through Thursday, August 18th. Teacher prep day will be on Friday, August 19th, and students will return to school on Monday, August 22nd.
STAFF INTENTIONS SURVEY FOR 2016-2017
A survey regarding your professional intentions for next year was emailed out to you last week. If you have not filled it out yet, it was due last Friday, so please get it completed ASAP. There are still a couple of you out there. It should only take a few minutes and only Mike and Rachel will see the results. Please see us if you would like to speak to us in person, and/or check the box on the survey saying you would like to set up a time to meet. This survey is for BOTH professionals AND paraprofessionals.
For those of you who requested to speak to us, we hope to follow up the week or two after STAAR. Thank you!
In an attempt to replenish inventory it’s come to our attention that our budget for construction paper is gone, and for the color copy paper is extremely low. Basically what we have in construction paper is for the rest of the year. (FYI in 12x18 colors red and black are out) Please be mindful in your upcoming projects or redoing bulletin boards. As for the color copy paper many colors are low or gone, we are only ordering colors that are needed and it will be minimal. It has been decided that due to the usage, in order to maintain inventory for the rest of the year all paper (with exception of white copy paper) will be stored in the cabinets under lock and key. You will put in your requests as you normally would and it will be dispersed accordingly or copies made upon approval. This isn’t ideal, but the school really can’t afford to put any more orders for paper in. We are doing the best we can to stretch it for the remainder of the year.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE PROPER FORM FOR REQUESTING TUTORING SNACKS. Tutoring snacks are for ONLY students who are tutoring. They should not be given away nor shared with other students!
Field trip season is dawning. Please refer to the field trip procedures in the staff handbook or see Carlene to ensure you are following protocol. Our calendar is filling up for the end of the year and many special events occur for the end of the year, so please plan ahead to avoid conflicts. The last day for field trip requests is April 8th. They will not be approved after.

* Our ILT, ESL, and SpEd teams -- for working with us as we juggled the various balls to figure out a solid support schedule for our STAAR grade levels. It's a grueling process trying to pull and plug schedules and ensure that we are in compliance with all expectations! Thanks for being patient and working it through for us! Teachers, kinks may still surface as there are always little details that are overlooked,,, but please understand that considering every little detail when it comes to every teacher's and every department's schedules is quite a work of art so please bear with us!!
