Outstanding Students

Our Outstanding Students program recognizes students who go above and beyond to make our school a great place. Teachers choose one student from each grade level who deserves recognition. The students who are chosen receive a Sonic drink of their choice, get their name on the marquee, and are recognized in the VAMS newsletter. We would like to congratulate the following students for making our school a great place to be:

Blayne Balthrop - 5th Grade

Moises Gonzales - 6th Grade

Jocelyn Ballard - 7th Grade

Millicent Sawyers - 8th Grade

Way to go! You make us proud!

College Day

In order to increase college awareness amongst our students, we are going to have a College Day once a quarter. Our first College Day will be on Wednesday, October 14. On this day, we will celebrate different universities and colleges. During this time, our 8th graders will learn about things they will encounter at the high school (GPA, SAT test, ACT test, graduation endorsements, scholarship opportunities, and much more).

On College Day, your child is welcome to wear college attire, including a college hat. Please ensure that your child does not wear something that would be disruptive to our learning environment. We look forward to this being a fun time and for the students to learn more about the possibilities that lie before them!

Counselor's Corner

The Rachel's Challenge lesson this week revolved around "The Golden Rule". This week students explored how they can apply The Golden Rule, "Treat others the way you want to be treated", in order to end social isolation.

Students watched the video - BE THE ONE (click HERE to see the video) and made pledges to "Be the One" to make a difference by recognizing when someone is isolated and by taking action to include them.

The Rachel's Challenge Leadership team will meet next Thursday during advisory. The Rachel's Challenge Club will meet Thursday after school in Mrs. Bruton's office until 4:30.

Volunteer Approval Form

All volunteers, including parents, need to complete a Volunteer Approval Form to have a background check before volunteering (ex: attend field trips, volunteer on campus, help with testing, etc.). The entire process, from submitting the form to receiving approval, can take as long as two weeks. This process must be completed before being approved to volunteer. If you have students at multiple schools, only one application is required.

Click HERE to access the Volunteer Approval Form. We appreciate our volunteers!
