No School - Labor Day
Monday, September 4th is Labor Day. Students will not be in school on this day.
Morning Car Rider Routines
For the safety of our students, please follow these guidelines in the morning when dropping off students at the front of the building.
1. Doors unlock at 7:40 a.m. Please do not leave children unsupervised before this time.
2. Students should get out of the vehicle on the right side, if possible, always between drop-off zone signs.
3. If you choose to park in the lot, please walk your child to the staff member on duty, in order to get across the road safely.
4. Do not drop students off in the parking lot area.
*Thank you for your diligence in keeping your students safe!
NWEA Testing
Decatur Township schools will administer the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests provided by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) from August 7 –25, for all students in grades 1 through 6. NWEA is a series of tests that measure your child’s individual achievement in reading, language arts, and math. Each test generally takes one hour to complete on the computer. Parents will receive a copy of student NWEA scores at fall conferences on October 4th. If you have any further questions, please contact your classroom teacher. They will outline the test schedule in their room newsletter. You can visit the NWEA website at www.nwea.org.
Tardies
Students learn so many things at school each day and it is important to be here on time. Hopefully, you would agree this is a life skill and responsibility. The School Board approved a Tardy Policy and spells out consequences for students not at school at 8:00 a.m. Thank you in advance for getting your children to school on time.
Absences
Please do not forget to call school at 856-0400 before 8:00 a.m. to report an absence or send a note upon the child’s return to school.
Textbook and IPad Rental Payments
It’s that time of year again! Textbooks and IPads are very important tools in each student’s daily achievement. We need to have all textbook rental (Grade 1 –$90.50, Grade 2 - $66.50, Grades 3-6 - $185.00) paid within the first thirty days of the school year. When sending textbook rental with students please be sure to enclose it in an envelope and write the child’s name, teacher’s name and “Book Rental” on the front. The district now has an EFunds account available for you to make payments online. You may do so by visiting our township home page at www.msddecatur.k12.in.us. The EFunds online payment is a link that can be found under “Families”, then “E Billing”. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. We can also accept credit card payments over the phone by calling the office at 317-856-0400, extension 8204.
Popcorn Fridays are Back!!!
The Gold Academy will be selling popcorn each Friday of the month. Students can bring in 50¢ on Friday mornings and their popcorn will be delivered to their classrooms. The sales will begin on Friday, August 11. This is a fundraising project to help support the needs of our school!
We also need volunteers to help with this activity. If you are interested you will need to fill out a Volunteer Registration Form. Thank you so much for your participation and help with our school functions.
School Bookstore
Our bookstore is now open with all those supply needs for your child. It is open from 7:45 to 8:00 a.m. every morning. If your child still is in need of some supplies they can come to the bookstore in room 217 to purchase those items.

Sign-Up Genius
We have a new volunteer system for the Blue and Gold Academy this year. It’s called “Signup Genius”. All volunteers must register for the 2017-2018 school year in order to volunteer. Forms are available at the Gold Office. Completed forms are to be returned to school.
Once your application has been approved you will receive an email stating you are approved to volunteer at the school.
We want to thank you for the time that you donate with us. It DOES make a difference for our students and staff.
