News from Dr. Cappucci
Changes in classroom spacing.
We are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all students at Glenwood. We will continue to monitor classroom spacing. As of Monday, we are moving all classroom desks to allow for three feet between students. Desks can still be placed in groups, but we will strive for 3 feet of distance-seat to seat. We know that mask wearing and hand sanitizing are the best ways to stop the spread of the virus and our teachers are vigilant about this. As we continue to see the cases rise in the district, the community, and Massachusetts, our goal is to keep our students healthy and in the classroom.
The cafeteria will move to 6 feet between students on September 20th. This is the best way to get ahead of the virus and to make sure all of our students stay in the classroom.
Thank you all for understanding.
WRSD Opening Plan/Music
Masks are required while singing and speaking indoors. Depending on the student’s comfort level, instrumentalists will wear masks when speaking, and may remove masks or use masks with a slit or hole cut for the mouthpiece, while playing instruments.
If you want your 4th or 5th grader to wear a mask when using the recorder, please send a separate mask with a slit for them to use during music classes when recorders are used.
Just a reminder that 4th graders have not ordered their recorders yet, so no mask with a slit for music is necessary.
Homework at Glenwood- Students are expected to read nightly and practice their facts.
In an effort to allow children to be children and give them time to explore their interests and spend time with their families, we will continue with our unstructured homework. It is expected that students read (20 -40 minutes a night depending on their grade levels) and practice math facts nightly. However, there won’t be a reading log or anything to check off for math facts - it’s just expected that both will be done. Students will be held accountable for knowing their math facts as well as reading for enjoyment each night. The only time homework will be formally assigned is when students need to study for a test/quiz or complete a project. Here is a list of things you can do with your child at home in the absence of formal homework. I know it is tempting for children to use a device or watch TV in the absence of formalized homework, but the following list will provide a more fun and enriching experience for your child.

What is Happening at Glenwood
Please, Please for the safety of our students never drive around the cars parked in the pick-up or drop off line. in the last two years children were almost hit by a car trying to speed out of line.
Arrival and Dismissal
Buses arrive between 8:55 and 9:05.
Our drop off line out back opens at 8:55 and ends at 9:08. Students must be in their seats ready to learn by 9:10. Please do not drop students off out back if an adult is not outside.
Our mornings are extremely busy and we cannot have children dropped off at the school prior to 8:55. Clubhouse is available for students every morning beginning at 7:00. Contact Rutland Recreation for information.
Please note that you must walk your child into the building and into the office to sign them in if they arrive after 9:08. Never leave a child at the front or back doors.
Dismissal begins at 3:30 with parent pick up in the back of the school. Teachers remain outside until 3:40. If you arrive after 3:40, you must pick your child up at the office.
The last bus leaves Glenwood at 3:45.
Our Makerspace and Science Lab have been closed for 18 months. We are opening them up this year.
Please do not drop off Makerspace materials if we are not in the building. We will have to throw away the materials if we are unsure of where they came from. Thank you for understanding.
A true makerspace is defined not by what's in it, but rather by what comes out of it: projects, experiences, artifacts, and learning. At Glenwood we are looking to have a makerspace that opens opportunities for children to design, create and explore. We are looking for donations of materials we can use in our makerspace. We are in desperate need of materials for our makerspace. Some things that we can not get enough of are:
small pieces of wood and nails for building
Cereal and cardboard boxes
masking and duct tape,
toilet paper and paper towel rolls,
craft supplies,
cereal boxes,
cardboard,
fabric, yarn,
streamers
plastic containers,
or anything that may end up in the recycling bin
We appreciate these and other materials that are in a clean and usable condition.
