I am pleased to advise that as part of increasing wellbeing and educational support services to our school community in 2021, we will be adding in the following programs to our roster:
- SPinS: Speech Pathology in Schools from The University of Newcastle, which was in abeyance over 2020 due to COVID-19’s impact.
This program specifically targets oracy across all K-2 students as a screener and then focuses specifically on supporting students in small groups to their point of need.
2. Write Start: Occupational Therapy in Schools from The University of Newcastle, which will be a new program in 2021.
This program specifically targets fine-motor, visual-motor and cognitive-processing across all Kindergarten students as a screener. It continues as specific program to support all students on a class-basis. Should funding support permit, the school will expand this program across Years One and possibly into Year Two.
Both Write Start and SPinS also offer professional learning for our Teaching Staff and School Learning Support Officers.
3. School Youth Worker/Chaplain in partnership with Macquarie Care/Life. The School, with the successful endorsement of its P&C will be creating 5dpw, 4 hr per day (10:30am-2:30pm) Youth Worker/School Chaplaincy position in the over 2021, with possibility of extension into 2020.
The NSW DoE’s rules prohibit proselytising. We see the successful applicant becoming a key part of our School’s enhanced Learning Support Team. The position information and application advice is included with this email. Please feel free to pass on to people you know who meet the requisite qualifications
- The school's 2021 Merit-Selection Processes are currently underway.
- These started with the merit-appointment of the school's Defence School Mentor last term. This position is shared between Glendore Public School and Adamstown Public School, with both applying for its continued funding in 2021.
- Each year, our school advertises its temporary, full-time and part-time classroom teaching positions statewide. These are being assessed for 2021 employment now.
- The same applies for our non-teaching positions in the areas of: Student support, student administration and wellbeing. These are also being reviewed at the moment
- Should we have an increase in staffing due to student no's, the school also either permanently recruits teaching staff through full, merit-selection, has direct appointments made of highly-ranked, university scholars or state-wide transfers.
- We would like to welcome Miss Brielle Long, who will be joining us next year as the newest member of our permanent teaching staff. Miss Long will be undertaking some casual teaching work over the next few weeks before commencing full-time duties next year. We will provide a separate biography about Brielle when she commences.
- In total, there are over 200 applications for all of the positions in our great school, surely a sign that people want to work here. Currently available as part of our recruitment roster is the 2021 Canteen Supervisor position. This is a publicly advertised position (live link). You can be assured that the School aims to put the best available staff in front of and in support of your children.
- Last edition, I advised that I would bring you more news of wonderful work in our Year 1, 2 and Year 5 teams. For Years 1-2, some wonderful work has been occurring in their Stage One Science Unit. Focusing on Matter and Energy Conversion, the photos below show how they have been investigating transferring light, heat and sound energy - Great work. Year 5 have had 40% of their students focusing on the Leadership Induction Program as well as speeches for next year's Leadership positions. They have also been doing some wonderful work as part of the Mathematical Investigations learning at the school. We also have provided some photos of these below. Inquiry and Investigatory Learning is certainly occurring at Glendore.
- Don't forget to access the new supplementary newsletter sites, including our Kindergarten 2021 SMORE and the new Sentral Parent Portal SMORE. We would really appreciate if you could complete a 3-question survey at the link immediately below, so that we can improve your Sentral Parent Portal experience.
- Our Annual P&C Meeting will be held next Monday, 16th November, onsite for up to 20-only in the School Library to meet adult social distancing guidelines. Please see the separate advisory at the bottom of this newsletter.
Take care everyone,

- First Languages Australia is working with regional language centres nationally to develop a map of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages that reflects the names and groupings favoured by community.
- This includes Miromar for our Awabakal People.
- Language centres have provided maps for their regions to be collated into this interactive map of languages and language families. Some regions have chosen to group related languages in colour to help with the sharing of language resources. The information about each language can be shared using its ‘share’ button.
- Gambay has been designed and produced in a way that allows language centres and communities to update information as they require.
- If you feel that the way your language is represented needs updating, please contact your local language centre so they can pass on the required changes. Updates can be emailed to us at contact @firstlanguages.org.au with “Gambay update” in the subject link.
- If you have video stories about your language that you would like to share through the map, please email us the YouTube or Vimeo links noting which language they should be attached to.

What’s Happening
- In 2020, staff at Glendore PS have demonstrated great adaptability in continuing to offer a range of extra-curricular creative and performing arts opportunities for the students.
- We are pleased to showcase our school still providing these opportunities, despite the impact of COVID-19. As such, we will be presenting our annual Creative and Performing Arts Showcase in a very different format.
- While some groups will still be performing live, other groups will be pre-recording performances or providing digital displays of their work for the audience to enjoy. The showcases will be run as socially distanced events and will occur multiple times on Thursday the 3rd of December.
- All students will be able to come and view the showcase in their designated time slots. Parents and caregivers will not be able to attend and view the showcase on site. However, a video link will be provided and where appropriate, a delayed recording of the showcase will be made available. This recording will be respectful of parents, caregivers, cultural and legal requests around non-publication.

Our school is committed to ensuring that how we teach your child is based on what we know makes the biggest difference to their learning. In our school, we have a focus on using the ‘What works best’ eight practices for effective teaching.
These practices include:
• Having high expectations of your child. In our school we do this by…
• Using explicit teaching in the classroom. In our school we do this by…
• Giving effective feedback to your child on their learning. In our school we do this by…
• Using data to inform how we teach your child. In our school we do this by…
• Using regular and effective assessments so we know how your child’s learning is going. In our school we do this by…
• Supporting the wellbeing of your child by looking out for their mental, physical and emotional health. In our school we do this by…
• Managing the classrooms well so they are safe, positive and stimulating environments for learning. In our school we do this by…
• Making sure our teachers collaborate with each other, and experts outside the school, so teaching practice continuously improves. In our school we do this by…
In addition, research shows that greater levels of support and engagement from parents and carers are associated with better student academic and wellbeing outcomes. We also know that students learn more effectively when the home and school environments form complementary and supportive roles for learning. It is for this reason that we are focused on continuing to foster the partnership between our school and parents.
The Department of Education has now released a ‘What works best’ resource for parents and carers, which provides tips for having conversations with your child about their learning. You can visit the department’s Parent Hub where you’ll find other tailored resources for parents and carers, as well as message from the NSW Minister for Education the Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC.
