Success at NEU Highgrove

We exist to serve the whole child, with a focus on building 21st century skills in order for ALL scholars to be productive and world ready citizens.

Dear Highgrove Families,

We launched our new school year 2022 - 2023 with great success. Thank you to all of our families who were able to join us on August 18 for our Back to School evening. We have completed our first month of school and our scholars are well on their way to learning a great deal, engaging in their learning daily and empowering themselves with lots of knowledge. Thank you for being our partners in this journey.

Your child's academic progress reports will go home Friday, September 23. The progress report will provide you an awareness of how your child is progressing with grade level standards. For any questions you may have now or after you receive the report, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Parent Volunteers

We have fantastic news regarding volunteering at school. For information on how to volunteer, please visit our district website at this link: https://www.riversideunified.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=580805&pageId=21871458.

Safety Safety Safety

The safety and welfare of our students is our highest priority. We continue to strive to provide a safe learning environment for them. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our Comprehensive Safety Plan throughout the year. The students and staff at Highgrove Elementary will be practicing three primary emergency drills throughout the year. They are fire, Earthquake, and Lockdown/Lockout. A letter will go out the week of September 6 to share with you more details about each drill, please ask your child for this letter.

We expect all of our parents and visitors to abide by traffic rules and common courtesy when dropping off and picking up students. Please park and walk to the gates to pick up your child. There is no parking between the small fence and parking spots. The curb is painted red and there are "No Parking" signs on the fence. The Handicapped parking spots are just for those with a visible Handicapped Placard. There is also no parking in the white lined areas. We will be asking law enforcement to help us keep everyone safe. Thank you for your help.

For your safety, when crossing the drive through lanes, only use the crosswalks. Crossing in the middle of the lane is dangerous.

Attendance Matters for Scholars' Success

Our scholars' time in class is a significant factor for their success. It is important for our students to arrive on time to school and stay the entire school day. For the month of August our overall daily attendance rate reached 93%; our goal is 97%.

We also had 218 students maintain perfect attendance for the month of August. This students came to school every day and on time; in their classrooms by 8:10 am learning. Our scholars have received an August perfect attendance BRAG Tag and will receive a popsicle later in the month. Please help your child with attending school on every day and on time. Not only will they receive a monthly treat, but also build good habits for the future.

Our doors open at 7:40 am for students to arrive and have breakfast. The first bell rings at 8:05 am for students to line up and at 8:10 the instructional bell rings to begin learning. When our students arrive after 8:10, they miss critical minutes of social and emotional and academic learning.

Just imagine arriving to class at 8:13 everyday, that is three missed minutes of learning for 180 days; this ends up being 9 hours of engaged learning lost. Please ensure your student(s) arrives to school between 7:40 am and 8:05 am so they engage in learning 100% of the day.

If your scholar is absent, please call our office at (951) 788-7296 to report his/her absence. For your convenience, we have also added an online form for you to report absences, please go to

Link: https://bit.ly/NEUHighgrove. This form is also available on our website.

In addition, reach out to his/her teacher to learn about what was missed in class and how the student can make up the learning. Many times, the student can find all of the assignments in their Google Classroom.

TERRIFIC Character Counts Every Day

At NEU Highgrove, we pride ourselves in how well our students learn and demonstrate TERRIFIC Character. For the month of August we introduced all of the traits and we emphasized Trustworthy.

For the month of September, we will model and teach Respect and Responsibility. At home, please join us in teaching and modeling to our scholars these traits.

We will recognize scholars for these traits on September 30, 2022. Teachers will send out invitations to the parents of the students who will be recognized at our virtual assemblies.
