A Message from Principal Stephens
Dear Pride Families,
Welcome back from fall break! We hope that you had time to spend with family, friends and loved ones as well as having time to relax and be rejuvenated for a festive second quarter.
We are proud to share that our community service events continue as our 6th grade students will be attending a field trip to Feed My Starving Children in Phoenix next month. This is the sixth time our students will have this opportunity as we continue to focus on teaching the whole child. Thank you, 6th grade teachers, for coordinating this unique experience.
As we look forward to a positive second quarter, on behalf of all of us at Patterson elementary, we thank you for your support in making Patterson a great place for our students to learn, grow and succeed. We are continuing to ask for support through tax credit donations in order to keep field trip and club fees as minimal as possible.
Tax credit donations can be made anytime and can be credited to your child's extracurricular activity fees. The tax credit reduces your tax burden to the state of Arizona, dollar for dollar. It also reduces your taxable income to the federal government.
Our school uses tax credit donations for enrichment opportunities such as field trips, assemblies, Art Masterpiece, Spirit Line, Running Club, and many Be Kind activities.
To donate, visit the tax credit donation page on our CUSD website: Click Here or contact Shelley Krason, office manager at Patterson Elementary for more information and/or to donate at the school by cash or check. 480-224-3607; email@example.com
Thank you so much for your support of Patterson Elementary Students.
Fall Holiday Reminder
Chandler Unified School District and Patterson Elementary have a tradition of celebrating the fall season rather than the observance of Halloween.
For this reason, students do not wear costumes to school on Halloween, but all students are welcome to participate on other dress up days during our Patterson Spirit Weeks as well as on our Be Kind Pride Picnic days which are the last Monday of each month. Join the fun in celebrating school spirit! 🙂
Library Corner with Ms. Hufford
What an incredible school community we have here at Patterson. You may not be aware of this, but YOU are a friend of the library. Our fall book fair was a huge success and our first quarter Birthday Book Club had 88 participants! It was so fun to help students choose their birthday books and see pride in their eyes when they turn them back in to share with others.
Each of these events are fundraisers for the library and have allowed us to purchase many new books and series for our students to enjoy. Not all schools have such a supportive community, so I graciously thank you for being a friend of the library. If you would like to recommend new books or series to our library, visit my webpage and click "Recommend a Book for the Library Collection."
Reading matters. If a student reads 20 minutes per day, he/she will be exposed to 1,800,000 words per year and is more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests vs. reading 5 minutes per day, exposure to 282,000 words per year, and 50th percentile on standardized tests.
With this in mind, take some time over break to visit the public library and get a library card for everyone in the family! They offer way more than books with your membership! You can put books on hold, check out E-books, audio-books, movie rentals, download music, read magazines and so much more!
CEF Generates Record-Breaking Support For CUSD Schools
Thanks to the generous contributions from our community partners and families, as well as the efforts of our dedicated educators and volunteers, the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) https://www.chandleredfoundation.org/ has raised nearly $300,000 over the past two months in support of the Chandler Unified School District!
CEF, an independent nonprofit organization, is on a mission to ignite community support for educational opportunities that pave the way for lifelong success for CUSD students. This is possible through our annual Cash for Classrooms campaign in August and the Golf Tournament & Fundraiser in September, events that rally our local community to generate supplemental funding for classroom resources, scholarships, crisis assistance, teacher training, and more. These funds will also support the record-breaking 150 grant applications we received from teachers for initiatives that further provide a strong foundation for student success.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated, participated, volunteered, and supported these efforts. Keep an eye out for updates on these funds that continue to drive academic excellence in your child’s school!
