Troy Kimmel Speaks to the 5th Grade Students

Darcy Burke arranged for Troy Kimmel to come out and speak to the 5th grade about weather and meteorology. Mr. Kimmel did a fantastic job with the students keeping them engaged, while informing them on interesting weather details. The students were very well behaved and asked very good questions at the end of the presentation. A special thanks to Darcy Burke for setting this up.

Counselor's Note .... Test Taking Tips!!

Get Organized:

We will start the 4th Nine Weeks when we get back from Spring Break. Please help your student get organized by cleaning out folders and backpacks so they can start the nine weeks off right.

txConnect and Grades:

I encourage you to show your child how to check their grades on

txConnect. Often, when I show students a printout of their grades, they are surprised to see a missed assignment or a zero. If they have access to their grades on a consistent basis they can view their progress and may be more willing to correct a poor grade on their own.

Testing Tips:

STAAR testing is right around the corner.

A few things to keep in mind on school nights:

Make sure your child~

  • Gets plenty of sleep each night, especially the night before a test

(8-9 hours a night is recommended for middle school aged kids)

  • Organize backpack and things the night before to prevent rushing on test day
  • Eat a healthy dinner and especially a healthy breakfast
  • Dress in layers on test day to adjust to a cold or warm classroom
  • Help your student stay positive and to believe in themselves- help build an

“I can do it” attitude

Spring and Campus Beautification Project:

We are looking forward to warmer weather and also to improving the appearance of our campus. Mr. Thailing has initiated our Campus Beautification Project that will take place in April. We will be looking for some “muscle” from students and parent volunteers to help out with landscaping, painting, and cleaning. We will also be needing donations. More information on this project after Spring Break.
