Principal Ayci's Welcome Letter!
Dear HSE Families;
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! It has certainly been a summer like no other. We are steadily reaching the end of our summer break, and a lot is happening to be prepared to greet our students virtually on August 17th.
While our learning will begin online, our team will continue to reach higher and further through online learning platforms in order to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences to students. Our level of high expectations and rigorous instruction for the students remains unchanged.
I wanted to take a few moments to bring some of those things to your attention.
CHROMEBOOKS, HOTSPOTS, HEADPHONES, and BOOKS
Last week, we asked our parents to complete a technology survey. Almost 90% of families responded, and we want to thank you for your participation. Those who indicated the need for a Chromebook then received a secondary email with distribution information. If you need any assistance with Chromebook lending, send an email to Ms. Tiu at atiu@harmonytx.org.
In the same survey, families were also asked whether they have an adequate internet connection. Those who communicated a need will receive a separate email regarding the distribution of hotspots.
To assist further in your distance learning, HSE has purchased one set of headphones for every student. Books and headphones will be distributed in the following weeks, as soon as we receive/sort them.
COMMUNICATION
Email is our number one communication tool. Please make sure your email address is up-to-date on Skyward. Should you need assistance, feel free to contact our front office or our Student Recruitment Coordinator, Ms. Usmani, at fusmani@harmonytx.org.

The Tiger Tribune is our weekly online-newsletter, being published every Wednesday. It will automatically go to your email address.
ONLINE INSTRUCTION
Returning students will continue using the same username and password for their My Harmony portal. New students will need to claim their accounts through my.harmonytx.org to gain access to their personal education portal. Be sure to check your email to find their student ID number.
Schoology is our main instruction platform this year. To access your Schoology account, just go to your Harmony portal and click on the blue Schoology icon. From there, you will be able to see your courses and other important things.
Parents, please take a look at this short video, which introduces the Schoology platform.
BREAKFAST and LUNCH
Breakfast and lunch will be distributed from our campus beginning August 17th. The schedule is very simple, with meals being handed out on Mondays between 8:00 AM-11:00 AM. Families will receive five days of meals for each child. We will have more information very soon.

Drive-up Chromebook Distribution.
Drive-up Chromebook distribution is happening this week. Parents, if you filled out the technology survey, please check your emails for the schedule and agreement form that needs to be completed before coming to school to pick up Chromebooks.
Here is the schedule, parents are allowed to pick up Chromebooks for siblings.
4th Grade Wednesday, August 12, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
5th Grade Wednesday, August 12, 12:00 PM- 3:00 PM
6th Grade Thursday, August 13, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
7th Grade Thursday, August 13, 3:00 PM-6:00 PM
(Please notice this afternoon pick up is extended hours, other grade level parents are welcome to pick up Chromebooks if they cannot make it to the scheduled times)
8th Grade Friday, August 14, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Please check your email we sent last week for the student ID number.

Uniform Purchase!
Parents, if you wish to purchase uniforms, payments will be available online, and you can pick up your shirts the next day from the front office.
Please note that students CAN NOT try out the shirts in the school or return them later on.
Volunteer needed for our School Support Team!
Do you have ideas on how we can improve our school? We are looking for new members to serve on our School Support Team. The School Support Team creates and reviews our Campus Needs Assessment and Campus Improvement Plan throughout the school year. The SST reviews our Academic progress from the previous school year and creates new goals for the upcoming school year.
Elite Learning - Before & After School Care
Elite Learning is offering full-day care to support virtual learning for Kinder through 8th-grade students.
WHEN: Starts on August 24th, 2020
HOURS:
Regular Hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Extended Hours 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
WHERE:
- Harmony School of Excellence-Houston located at 7340 Gessner Drive, Houston, TX 77040
COST:
Regular Program: $180 / week - from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Extended Care: $20 / week - from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Registration Fee: $50 or $75 per family
Minimum 25 enrollments required per location to begin the program.
Students must bring their own technology devices and headphones to complete their online assignments.
Parents need to provide breakfast and lunch. Snacks will be provided throughout the day.
