RICHLAND REFLECTIONS

Week of 10/16/23 at Richland Elementary School

Big picture
Dear Richland Families,

The rain has cleared, so we hope to see you tonight at Rustic Valley Orchard for Richland's first Fall Festival! See information below if you pre-purchased tickets. Tickets are also available at the entrance. Please note that parent/guardian supervision is required as it is not a drop-off event.

What a fun week we had! First through fifth grade classes visited the mobile Fab Lab set up in the art room. STEAM (Science, Technology, Enginerring, Art, and Math) lessons focused on digital fabrication and computer science. Ask your chlid to share their experience, and check out some highlights below!

Kindergarten through second grade classes had a visit from the West End Fire Company for Fire Safety Week! Students heard from volunteer fire fighters and saw the outside and inside of a fire truck. Ask your child to share what they learned, and see highlights below!

It's Digital Citizenship Week! Teachers will teach lessons during Caring School Community class meetings, and we have special questions of the day and spirit days for more student participation. Check out the details below and how you can extend the learning with family activities.

See you at the orchard!

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

FABULOUS VISIT FROM THE FAB LAB!

Big picture
The Bucks County Intermediate Unit Mobile Fab Lab returned to Richland this week! Short for "fabrication," a Fab Lab instructor taught lessons in computer science and digital fabrication to students in grades 1-5. Students loved creations from a 3D printer and coding on an iPad to move a robot through mazes they created.

These STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) engaged students all week long! Check out this link for more information on ways your family can get involved with the Bucks County Fab Lab Center.

HALLOWEEN PARADE ON 10/27 @ 2:15

Big picture

Richland Elementary will have a Halloween Parade this year! Students are invited to dress in costumes and parade with their classes in the back of the school on the blacktop beginning at 2:15pm (weather permitting). Family members may view the parade in designated areas.

Please note:

  • Students should not wear costumes to school. They should bring costumes with their name and teacher’s name clearly marked.

  • Costumes depicting any violence or horror as seen in the movies, on the news, or in comics, are not permitted.

  • Weapons of any kind, including metal, plastic, wood and cardboard are not permitted.

  • Costumes should reflect age appropriate characters.

Students should not wear costumes to school. They will be provided classroom time to dress in costumes in preparation for the parade. Fall parties will follow the parade.

If you do not wish to have your child participate in the parade or the classroom activities that follow, please let your child’s classroom teacher know. Your child will be provided with an alternate activity not related to this event.

  2. Officially sign up in December (information will be sent home the week of December 11th).

Voluntary before school practices are on Wednesday mornings. All 4th and 5th graders who are interested are invited to meet at Richland from 8:15-8:50. Mrs. Titus will be there to provide reading time and questioning practice.
