All Things EQ Message (from the founder Danna Evans):
The motto this week is:
I'm kind to the people I'm with right now!
This week is all about expanding what our students may believe it means to be kind. Kindness isn't something they need to reserve for only their friends. Kindness is something they can share with everyone. Not just their friends, but with the people, they are with right now.
Kindness can be more than an occasional act. Kindness can be a state of being. Even though I may not be currently holding open a door for someone or actively sharing my crayons, I can still be kind, by the way, I "show up."
We want our students to understand that kindness includes the way they pay attention to others when they speak. Sharing a smile or nodding to let the speaker know they are listening; is kind because it tells the other student that we care about what they have to say.
While an act of kindness is wonderful and can make both the giver and the receiver feel great, kindness can be more than something we do. Kindness can be something we are.
Although we cannot choose what each moment in our life will be like,
we can choose what we will be like in each moment.
Here are some picture books that relate to this week's motto:
• The Three Questions by Jon J. Muth
• The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss
• I Can Be Kind: My First Manners Book by Amie Carlson
