Jackie & Me

"Dan Gutman has devised a wonderful mechanism for teaching social history while telling a great tale." -The Philadelphia Inquirer
This is a really intense book, so you'll never want to put it down. You're going to love the excitement, and you might learn a little also. Joe is a very adventures character and he is trying new things and doing great things.
He has written multiple books. It was published in 1999.
about the book
If you like sports fiction this book is definitely for you! The main characters name is Joe Stoshack and he has a unique ability to travel back in time using baseball cards. His love for baseball is incredible! When they had to do a project he would always try to get baseball involved in it somehow. He is pretty determined, and smart enough to get around. When he goes back in time to do his project on Jackie Robinson somethings don't go as planned. He was doing fine at first before he realized that he was a different color! He also got to be the bat-boy for Jackie's baseball team, but he didn't get along very well with this other kid. He manages to get his information about Jackie and also just gets away from the kid trying to knock his head off with a baseball bat. At first Joe is Jackie only friend but eventually his teammates start to come around. Joe also has a fun time watching Jackie and his team play. Joe stays at Jackie's house for the time he is there and learns when Jackie can't sleep he puts some sugar on bread and then dips it in some milk. My favorite part is when he finds out he could earn millions by getting the baseball cards and bringing them back to his time! So the guy gives him a suitcase full of them, but when he is running away from the police he can't manage to bring the suitcase back with him. This is a really great book and I highly recommend it! Have you ever wondered what it was like in Jackie Robinson's time?
