Humanities Update

WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 11TH NOVEMBER

INTRODUCTION

That's the first week down, and only another 6 weeks including this one until Christmas. Unfortunately the 6 weeks are rather busy! I've listed all the events that I am aware of for the rest of the term including a change of date for the faculty meeting.

Please check all of the dates carefully along with information about the Year 10 Monitoring Review. There is also a resource about that you might find useful about learning mats and don't forget that the PGCE students start their 2 week induction to Ridgeway and Placement 1 this week, with their main block starting in January.

Thank you to the Geography department for their hard work with the Year 11 Controlled Assessment and to the History department for their trips to Plympton Castle and preparation for their Controlled Assessment.

YEAR 10 HUMANITIES REVIEW

The Year 10 Humanities review will now be taking place between Monday 18th November and Friday 13th December. I'll be starting with a data scrutiny with the HoS for the first week, with ideally all observations taking place between Monday 25th November and Friday 6th December. The work scrutiny will take place by HoF/HoS between these two weeks as well.

During these two weeks, the following people are due to be observed: IH; CMV, LB, JW, CB and JS. The observations will be carried out by myself alongside HoS and JED. Please can you let me know by FRIDAY 15th NOVEMBER which lesson you would like to be observed in between Monday 25th November and Friday 6th December. If these dates are unsuitable, then you can use Monday 9th - Friday 13th December as reserve.

The review will take place in exactly the same way as the Year 11 one, which will be fed back during the next Faculty meeting. If you have any questions about this, then please let me know.

LEARNING MATS

Whilst we have been using literacy mats to some success in the faculty, I think that we could take them one step further to become learning mats. The video below explains how they are used in another school.
