From the Administration

It's been a very quick four weeks! We have seen positive changes in our Mustang Morning move and teachers report being able to help more students and keep them caught up if they are absent.

We have a few busy weeks in a row with Back to School Night, conferences, and Homecoming. This year's theme is "Under the Sea."

Our Back to School Night is September 21 from 6:00-8:00. We host a Regional College Fair that same evening, so we are making a slight adjustment to our schedule. I will record the State of the School, send it to families, and post it on the website instead of giving a presentation in the auditorium like last year. My hope is that more families will be able to attend the college fair, which will be set up in the gym from 5:30-8:00.

Attendance for Mustang Morning

Parents/guardians with the Power School app may receive a notification that your child has missed Mustang Morning. In most instances, it's because your child was drafted through Adaptive Scheduler, a Power School add on, which doesn't automatically sync with attendance in Power School.

Teachers have to take attendance in two places. They take their seminar attendance, which is the default for students who have not been drafted or signed up to work with a teacher AND they have to go into Adaptive Scheduler to take attendance of the students who have been drafted. It's confusing, but the important thing that we want you to know is that our attendance team will work to sync the attendance records in Adaptive Scheduler with Power School to be accurate, but it will be after Mustang Morning before they can do so. .

In almost every instance, your child is attending Mustang Morning and they are where they are assigned. We appreciate your patience as we get everything updated and accurate in Power School.

The Panorama survey will be administered during seminar on October 23. Our goal is an 80% participation rate county wide.

Lunch Release

Our "senior lunch" release has begun. It has been successful in many ways, but, as with anything new, we do have a few challenges.

For the most part, students have been returning back to school on time for the start of their class. Please remind students to keep this up!

If your child is a senior or if you have given them permission to leave for lunch daily, please talk to your student about driving safely at all times. We have seen an increase in students with permission to leave for lunch and that comes with a huge responsibility. We do not recommend giving freshmen and sophomores permission to leave, but of course, that is a parent's/guardian's right.

If, at any time, you choose to revoke permission for your student, please call the main office. Many thanks for following up with your student to talk about safety and responsibility if leaving the school campus during the day.

Trip to France?

We renew our homestay student exchange with the Lycée Ledoux, a high school in Besançon, France, Charlottesville's sister city, begun in 2006, with a trip to France during this year's spring break.

We would like to form our travel group by September 30 to ensure seats on a plane and two nights in Paris after our time in Besançon. This trip is open to all students, parents, and friends regardless of French-speaking ability.
