Krista Carson - Elementary Digital Learning Coach
I am the instructional coach at Ray Marsh Elementary and will be serving in a supplemental position as the elementary digital learning coach. I served as a T3 (Train-the-Trainer) when the Digital Learning Initiative was implemented in the 2014-15 school year and I am thrilled to serve in this capacity and reenergize the commitment to best instructional practices when integrating technology. I look forward to supporting you, my elementary teacher colleagues, in the pursuit to integrate technology that ensures high levels of learning for all students through relevant and personalized learning experiences.
Consider the "Big 3" when Implementing Technology
Lesson Design
Balance is key when implementing technology. When designing any lesson whether it includes technology or not, it's important to consider the BALANCE of input (teacher talk, providing information) with opportunities for student output through student talk, physical activity and interpersonal interaction.
Recommendation....
- For every 10-20 minutes of input or consuming content on the device, there needs to be an opportunity for interpersonal interaction, physical activity, and/or designing and creating.
- Recess is for physical activity and interacting with peers, not using the device.
- Teach students about the different types of screen time and the need for BALANCE. Academic Screen Time vs. Entertainment. See lessons below from Common Sense Media.
