The group is a subset of Green Newton and uses their monthly meetings to brainstorm and share sustainability initiatives and ideas at all of our schools. New programs around composting, food waste reduction and recycling have sprung from the organization. City leaders from NPS and City Hall also join to add support, ideas and resources.

Winter Student Art Reception
On Wednesday, February 15th, the Fine Arts Department hosted its Winter Student Art Reception at the NPS Education Center. The exhibit of student artwork, representing the district's 19 elementary and middle schools, will be on display through early April when visual art teachers will install a spring art exhibit. Student art exhibits and receptions take place every Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Each elementary and middle school has a display board in the corridors of the Education Center where they exhibit a representative sample of the artwork being created by students in their school. New this year is a middle school collaborative slide show featuring digital artwork created with iPads and various art apps for a new emphasis in our middle school visual arts programs known as Media Arts, a newly adopted fifth arts discipline now recognized in national and state arts curriculum frameworks (MA Arts Curriculum Framework, updated 2019).
