FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER
Our 2020-2021 membership drive theme, “Moving Forward Together,” seems more appropriate now than a few weeks ago. We decided yesterday to carry this theme through our in-person annual Fall Conference scheduled for October 4-6 here in Columbia. These days, “Moving Forward Together” couldn’t be more significant for MoASSP, schools, districts, communities, Missouri, and the United States of America.
MISSOURI SCHOLARS 100 CLASS OF 2020
Even though we didn't have the Missouri Scholars 100 luncheon April 26, we are still celebrating these great students. Check out the positive photos below.
CHANGING OF THE GUARD
We are announcing in this edition of the Messenger changes to the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. There will be a change in the Kansas City and Southwest Regions. We appreciate the service of Dr. Jeff Meisenheimer, principal at Lee’s Summit North HS. Jeff replaced me when I retired in 2017. He finished out my term and then was re-elected to a two-year term. Jeff will continue to remain active in MoASSP and involved at the national level. Dr. Keith White will leave the principalship at the end of this month as the principal at Buffalo HS. He was named superintendent of Diamond School District. Keith served just one year on the board but provided insight that benefited our Association. All the best to both Jeff and Keith. Thanks to those who voted online for our next President-Elect. See the results below.
VIRTUAL NEW PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE
This week on Monday and Tuesday, close to 100 new principals gathered in front of their computer screen to hear Dr. Mike Rutherford and Dr. Todd Whitaker. The event co-hosted by MoASSP and MAESP provided new principals with six leadership lessons. Thanks also to the Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS) regional leaders for their involvement. Larry Peterson, new principal at VanBuren HS, tweeted, "Thank you @MoASSP and @MoAESP for putting together a great conference for new administrators."

ROGER DORSON
Yesterday, Dr. Roger Dorson, DESE Assistant Commissioner, retired. Roger has been supportive of MoASSP and the work of principals. We certainly valued Roger’s leadership as interim commissioner during a turbulent time in our state. Thanks, Roger and happy retirement!

MEDICAID EXPANSION AUGUST 4 VOTE
In about six weeks, Missourians will head to the polls and cast their vote to expand Medicaid or not. Some predict that there will be short-term pain for a long-term gain in the state budget—Medicaid partners with federal and state governments. According to the Missouri Budget Project, "Medicaid expansion would result in more than $100 million in state general revenue savings and new revenue for the state of Missouri. This net increase in the general revenue budget would make funds available that could be used for other priorities, including education."
MoASSP has been involved with two Zoom meetings discussing Medicaid expansion here in Missouri.
BETTER SCHOOLS FOR MISSOURI
