Banneker Principal Weekly Update

March 1 - March 5

Principal's Welcome Message and P2 Theme

Greetings Banneker Families,

I hope all students distance and hybrid had a great week last week and a great weekend. Did you know that we are already planning for next school year? If you know someone who needs to enroll at Banneker or know a family who enrolled in homeschool last year but wants to come back to Banneker next year, now is the time to preregister. One of the things we are monitoring this year is our families' access to technology. Parents please help us by completing the following survey www.BByt.es/9K9QYYQ. It will take you about 10 minutes of time but it will give us valuable information to make great decisions for next school year. We have a few spirit weeks this month so be on the lookout for how your child can participate. This Thursday and Friday will be book character dress up or 100th day of school festivities. Check with your teachers for more information about how you can participate. We are looking to fill the yearbook with great spirit pictures. Make sure to order your yearbook soon! I have included more details below. Last week’s Positivity Project theme was Cheering Others' Success. This week's Positivity Project theme is Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm means you approach life with excitement and energy. You energize people around you. It is the ability to bring life and excitement to different situations. It often leads to a higher level of involvement and engagement both for individuals and for groups. Are you feeling enthusiastic about March 2021. I know I am. Make sure to read on to see a new section titled “The Best of Banneker.” This week we are highlighting Mrs. Livesay and Mrs. Craun Let's have a great week together.

Big picture

The Best of Banneker- DeeDee Livesay

My name is DeeDee Livesay and this is my 4th Year at Banneker. I am the English Learner Teacher. I grew up in Strasburg, Virginia. I got an undergraduate degree from Bridgewater College and a Masters in Reading from Shenandoah University. I also got a School Administration Degree from James Madison University and went on to get an English Learner Endorsement. I absolutely love children, I always wanted to be a teacher. When I was a little girl, I "played school" all of the time. I am married to Joe Livesay, who is the Admissions Coordinator at the Academies of Loudoun. Our son Michael is a sophomore at Shenandoah University. He is a pitcher for their baseball team. Our daughter Emma is 14. She attends school in Frederick Co. VA. She is an avid basketball player. I enjoy cheering Michael and Emma on at their games. I love spending time with my fur babies - 1 golden retriever, 2 pugs, and 2 cats. I enjoy going to the beach. One thing you might not know about me is that while at Bridgewater, I studied abroad in Australia. I love working with my students and their families. I have worked in other schools and I must say....Banneker is a very special place and I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with the Banneker students, their families, and the staff.

The Best of Banneker- Caitlin Craun

My name is Caitlin Craun and I'm a Special-Ed assistant and one of the Yearbook Editors/Creators. This is my 7th year at Banneker. I grew up in Fresno, California and went to Fresno State. I got into education because my mother in law's recommendation. She was the Banneker secretary for almost 30 years! I live in Philomont and both of my kids went to Banneker. My husband Cody is a home builder in the Mclean/Tyson's area, my daughter, Calli, is a college freshman and she helps coach high school volleyball and my son, Camden, is a Sophomore who plays football. I love growing flowers and veggies, going on long walks with friends or hikes with my family, painting/crafting signs or other home décor, listening to music to unwind and checking out local restaurants with friends. Something you may not know about me is that when I started college I wanted to go into the medical field as an OB/GYN. I thought it would be so amazing to help women through labor and deliver precious babies :) Now that I've had my own babies, I would rather be a labor and delivery nurse because they are the ones who spend more time with their patients. The thing I love about Banneker is the sense of community we experience with the students, their families and the awesome staff members. Being in a small school, in a small town, is so much more personal than at big schools. I absolutely love getting to watch these kids grow up and move through every grade. I'm also lucky to work with such an amazing staff and because I get to work in so many different grade levels I really get to know almost everybody in the school! My hope for students is that they enjoy their time with their friends and remember how special their time was at Banneker.
