From the office
CLASS EXPLORATION AND PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE PLANNING
As February turns into March, the students and staff at DLBHS will be starting to plan for the 2023-24 school year. We will start this with class exploration days from 8:30 until 10:30 on Tuesday, February 28 and Thursday, March 2. During these times, students in grades 9-11 will have the chance to learn about all classes that will be offered next year. Freshmen and sophomores will also draft their schedules for their remaining high school years.
During Laker Time on Friday, students will enter the courses they hope to take next year into a preliminary “wish list” so that the office can start to build the 2023-24 class schedule. During the week, students will also learn about the requirements for the North Dakota Scholarships and Zero-hour course offerings.
We urge parents and students to discuss course offerings and decisions. You can view the 2023-24 Course Catalog at this link [click here]. The catalog also has graduation requirements and other information. At this time of the year, the catalog will likely be updated, but we want parents and students to have access as we revise and refine all of the plans for next year.
Senior students do not need to report to school until 10:20. Students in grades 7-8 will report to school as usual. Mr. Brown and Mrs. Schaefer will work with junior high students in the near future as they also make plans for the next school year.

Grow in Kindness
DLB students in grades 7-12 discussed the science of kindness with Mrs. Schaefer this month. They also did a kindness self-inventory and ranked their kindness to self and others. They chose which concept in kindness they wanted to "grow in" (Caring, Courage, Inclusiveness, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility). Staff also did the kindness self-inventory.
They were given 1 of 11 circles with a design on it (done by HS art students) and assigned a color by their grade. They colored their circle and wrote on it the kindness concept they wanted to grow in.
Mrs. Cool and some of her art students helped put up the background paper, painted the tree, and rolled tape for the over 300 circles. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
The "Grow in Kindness" tree is located in the ramp hallway by the commons.

National Honor Society
DLBNHS is sponsoring a Food Drive through the month of February. The food will be donated to the Lord'S Pantry. Food items in greatest need include canned soup, canned vegetables, canned fruit in juice, boxed cereal, peanut butter, and jelly. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
Laker Time groups are having a competition to see which group can donate the most food items by March 3.
We'd love to receive donations at the HS for this important cause. We learned that February is a month with fewer food donations.
Contact Advisor, Mary Eldredge Sandbo if you have questions.
