"Of the Year" Recognitions
It’s time to begin the process of nominating and selecting the “Of the Year” honorees for each campus. I will include the link to a google doc with the criteria that needs to be met so you can nominate our Teacher, Humanitarian, Rookie Teacher of the Year, candidates. You will have until Wednesday, February 19th at 4:00 to make your campus nominations, and then from 2/19-2/24 to make your final vote as all final nominations are due to district by the end of the day on February 24, 2019.
Please enter your nominations below:
Guided Reading & Guided Math
Now that you have most of our MOY scores, you can reorganize your small groups and plan accordingly. Remember small groups should be flexible so that you switch kids from groups as they meet the next level. Please keep in mind that guided reading and math is a school-wide expectation. We should not be walking in to observe your class, and not see it happening. It is very evident when it is in place and consistent. In addition, please make sure that your stations are purposeful, rigorous and intentional as this will maximize student learning!
Employee Service Awards This Thursday!
If you completed 10, 15, 20, 25 or more years of service at PfISD, please send me your name this week so I can double-check that you are recognized! The banquet to celebrate you will take place on Feb. 13th at 6:00. Invitations should have been delivered. Please let me know if you will be attending and if you will have a plus 1, so I know how many seats to save. :)
Oratorical Event
Our annual Oratorical Event is around the corner and it's time to see our kids shine! Throughout the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month and recognizing African American figures who have made an impact in our lives. Our students will explore various poems, excerpts, and/or speeches by these figures and choose a selection that "speaks" to them which they will then memorize and recite in early March.
*Please note that this is mandatory for 3rd-5th graders at HP. Participating in the Oratorical Competition, on the other hand, is highly encouraged, but not a requirement.
You should have already/will soon receive "Oratorical Dates to Remember" along with an Oratorical rubric that you will use for each student.
Big thing to know now is... PLEASE talk to your kids about the event and have them select their Oratorical piece by Thursday, Feb. 6th . We will have a flyer going home that day providing parents with info about Oratorical (flyer attached in case you want to view).
Side note and reminder: All students in DL classes are eligible to compete in BOTH languages. They do not have to choose one or the other. If you have a student who is a TOP English and TOP Spanish performer, they can perform both poems for the competition.
Please contact Ms. Duong at any time if you need clarification or any further information. S Also, your grade level S.S. representative(s) are great resources as well!

Teaching Tip
Deliver your instruction with energy and enthusiasm. Your passion is contagious and it motivates your students.
Behavior Tip
Your students will behave as you expect them to. If you begin with the assumption that there will be misbehavior, chances are they will fulfill that expectation. However, if you expect the best from them and clearly communicate these expectations, they will do everything they can to meet your assumptions about their character and abilities. It’s just human nature and it’s at work in everyone from children to adults.
