Boom of Sheep Industry
Sheep raising had a big boom before the Civil War. George Wilkins Kendall encouraged people to come to Texas to raise sheep. Sheep ranchers came in from Northern states and Europe. After the Civil War, more sheep ranchers came into Texas because there was a big demand for wool. At that time, (1870's) ranchers north and west of San Antonio began to acquire big herds.
Because of the sheep...
Ranchers and farmers were having little fights because of the sheep. They were crossing into other people's territory and people didn't like that.
