News from Glacier Peak
February 5, 2021
Remarks from Mr. Griffin
Happy February, it has been awesome getting two full weeks back in the building with students and staff. Thank you for your partnership, patience, and flexibility this year! Our entire staff continues to work tirelessly to provide the best education possible to our students. We could not be as successful as we are without your support!
Beginning the evening of February 11th and into February 12th, we will be hosting our spring semester Parent/Teacher conferences. Given the circumstances of Covid, all conferences will be conducted remotely via Google Meet. We look forward to connecting with each of our families to discuss student progress and mid-year data points. The links to sign up and the virtual Google meeting links can be found for all teachers on this document. Also, this year we are offering conferences with our Special's teachers - P.E., Art, and Music. Feel free to click on their virtual links and check-in with them. You should have received all sign-up information from your teachers over the past two weeks.
It’s hard to believe we are still in the midst of the pandemic. Everyone is anxiously awaiting some semblance of normalcy. Our collective efforts surrounding safety continue to be integral for us to be able to maintain momentum in our classrooms. Please contact the school if your student has been in close contact with a positive case or have tested positive. This will allow us to follow up accordingly with school-related items and next steps.
We are thrilled to be back in the swing of things. I appreciate you reading through this week's update. It includes information on:
- Mobile COVID testing coming to Glacier Peak for all staff and students on Tuesday, Feb. 9th
- Information on Conferences next week
- Reminders on the community survey
- Information on our Virtual Kindergarten Welcome night!
Thanks so much for your continuous support! Have a great weekend!
Respectfully,
Tim Griffin
Principal
Mobile COVID Testing coming to Glacier Peak
As we continue in-person learning, our focus remains on maintaining a consistent learning environment by continuing the health and safety protocols we implemented this past fall and also looking for strategic ways to add new layers of protection.
We’re pleased to share that our district has a new COVID-19 non-symptomatic staff and student saliva-based mobile testing program made possible through our ongoing partnership with COVIDCheck Colorado.
Testing will be available at Glacier Peak on Tuesday, February 9th from 7:30 am to 10:00 am
COVID-19’s ability to spread from an infected person, even before they become symptomatic or if they remain asymptomatic, makes testing of non-symptomatic individuals even more important. In a school setting, receiving positive test results among non-symptomatic individuals can allow us:
To better isolate individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and potentially limit the spread of COVID-19 within our school community
Track the potential transmission and spread of COVID within our school
Both of these factors can help us in our effort to maintain a consistent learning environment for your child.
If you would like for your child to be offered the opportunity to participate in this voluntary, COVID screening, please click the link below and fill out the online consent form. Online pre-registration is easy or you can register your child on site at the testing location.
Important Things to Know:
Parents please select onsite screening during registration so that you can do on-going regular testing
Saliva test participants should not have any food or drink 30 minutes before the test and no water 10 minutes before the test.
Testing for elementary and K-8 school students will not be conducted without parent consent and parents will need to accompany their child to the testing location. Parents can plan to get their child tested before or after school or check their child out at the front office to be tested. This will be considered an excused absence.
Middle and high school students still need online parent consent but a parent does not need to accompany their student to a testing location. It’s important to know that students will, however, not be pulled from class and students should plan to visit a testing site before or after school.
This testing will only be for district students and staff. As a reminder, any individual can receive a free COVID test at one of the standing COVIDCheck Colorado sites, including the Mountain Range High School site in Westminster.
To learn more about the mobile testing program and see a testing schedule, please visit the Five Star Schools COVID Testing webpage
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our students, staff and community.
Valentine’s Day at Glacier Peak
Students may bring Valentine's Day cards on or before Monday, February 8. They MUST be at school at least 72 hours in advance.
Students may also bring in commercially packaged treats, with cards, 72 hours ahead of time. Treats MUST be single-serving commercially packaged items, for example; lollipops, conversation hearts, etc. We cannot have cupcakes, cookies, treat bags, or other homemade treats.
FAMILY SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS SURVEY
While this is clearly a very unique year, we appreciate you doing your best to answer and apply the questions to our current circumstances. The survey window is Jan. 25-Feb.19th. Last year, we had 18% of Glacier Peak families complete the survey. Here is the link to complete the survey. We value your opinions, and we want to be doing the right work in alignment with our community. Go team Glacier Peak!

Parent/Teacher Conferences
