Battle in Austin
It has been a terrible sight to see Mexico Invade Texans who were not prepared. Sam Houston named the capital after he was scared that Mexicans would be moving on to Austin, however Austin citizens were against the idea of the capital being named, so the y warned people that any attempt to move state papers would be met with armed resistance. Sam Houston had sended a company of rangers under the command of Col. Thomas I. Smith and Capt. Eli Chandler to Austin to remove the archives but not to lead to violence. Austin Vigilantes were unprepared for the raid, and the rangers managed to load the archives, but they hadn't gotten far after Mrs. Angelina Eberly fired a canon at them. The rangers gave up the papers in order to avoid violence. The archives remained in Austin untouched until it soon became the capital again.
