Service Hour Requirements Reminder

The Academy of Saint Matthias the Apostle families are REQUIRED to complete 24 hours of service in any of the following areas: school activities, Home & School Association activities, CYO, volunteering through the church or Scouts. These activities are divided into two categories: those that require Child Protection Clearance and those that do not require Child Protection Clearance. If you are interested in Child Protection Clearance, please see Mrs. Blackburn. Parents are given an opportunity to sign up for areas of service throughout the school year, opportunities may also be available through your child's teacher. Check with the teacher periodically to find out what's available. Families who choose NOT to complete the 24 hours of service are assessed a fee of $400. Extra service hours completed by one family may not be transferred to another school family. All service hours must be completed by MAY 1st. A service hour fee is assessed for families who have not completed their hours.

It is your responsibility to stay informed of the different volunteer opportunities. Opportunities are listed in this weekly Bridges newsletter, Facebook and Twitter as well. We do our best to keep the calendar on our school webpage up to date. Below you will find a list of upcoming opportunities starting with the fall festival replacement event our-Great Pumpkin Glow Party. We look forward to seeing you throughout the school year!

Student Council Elections

Student council speeches were heard and elections were held this afternoon. Results will be available tomorrow morning.

Great Pumpkin Glow Party

November 7th -- 4 pm to 8:30 pm

(Volunteers needed from 3 pm to 9:30 pm)

Join us on November 7 for what is sure to be a fun evening. We will have a mobile game truck where the kids can play their favorite games. There will be glow in the dark manicure's for the ladies. Pumpkin decorating contest, blingo, duck pond glow pluck the evening will end with a glow in the dark dance for 6th-8th grade only. See attached flyer.

Book Fairs

November 9th thru November 13th In-School Book Fair

Volunteer times will be available thru Sign-Up Genius by October 20th. Clearance Required.

December 5th Barnes & Noble In-Store Book Fair

Gift Wrappers, Story Readers and Greeters needed.

Sign Up Genius will be available by November 16th

Clearance Not Required.

First Steps in Music

Mrs. Hawkins the music teacher is starting a First Steps in Music Program, for more information please click on the link

Contact Mrs. Richards for a registration form, classes begin Friday, October 23rd.

Financial Aid Applications

ADW Aid applications for the 2016-2017 school year opened yesterday. Please go to or our school website to apply. All tuition assistance obtained through the archdiocese is based on financial need. Families must apply each year to receive assistance and need must be demonstrated each year to qualify. Applying for tuition aid has no bearing on whether a student is admitted to a school. Family Dinner Night

Family Dinner Night is October 22nd at Chick-fil-A.

Cross Country Team

Final Cross Country practice tomorrow, October 15. Practice 3:30 until 4:30. Parents may pick up around back by Friendship Hall.

Race this week will be Sunday, October 17 at Villa Rosa, 3800 Lottsford Vista Road, Mitchellville, MD 2072. Race time is 4:00 pm.

School Wish List

If you could help the school with the following items, it would be greatly appreciated. First class stamps, letter size envelopes and file folders. You may drop the items off at the front office.

Virtus Reminder

All volunteers who have contact with children and/or volunteer during school hours (8:00 am-3:00 pm) must complete a one-time Child Protection class and have an
E-Background check performed in accordance with Archdiocesan policy. Stop by the office to pick up the necessary forms and go online to to register for an upcoming class.
