October 15, 2018
Dear parents,
We are nearing the end of the 1st quarter. All late work and retakes must be in by Friday, October 19th. Check power school for any missing work.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Students have a goal of reading at least one hour per week, and this is tailored to the pace of each students’ reading. Their weekly page number goal is listed on the reading log. We are now beginning the short story portion of our narrative unit, which includes reading short stories together in class. Students will be assessed on reading comprehension throughout this process. Our narrative writing is still underway, and students will turn in their one-event narrative this week.
7th Grade: We finished last week with some practice identifying subjects and predicates. We have one more lesson from chapter 6 so the chapter test will be at the end of the week. Students have until October 26 to read 125,000 words to meet their goals.
8th Grade: This week we will begin writing a 500 word essay for the America & Me essay competition. The theme of the essay is “My Personal Michigan Hero.” The top ten essays from the class will be submitted to a statewide competition for $2,000 and a trip to Lansing in May.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We will be wrapping up our study of prehistoric times this week. Students will be working on a Stonehenge brochure this beginning of the week. We will also be doing some review of main ideas before taking a quiz.
