School Board Wrap Up - January 5, 2023
During their first meeting of 2023 on Thursday, the Danville School Board elected Ty’Quan Graves as their new chair and Tyrell Payne as their new vice chair. They will serve in these capacities for the next year.
Graves has served on the school board since 2018 and served as vice chair since 2020. Payne has served on the school board since 2020.
Each was chosen to serve in their capacities in a majority vote.
In November, Graves, Keisha Averett, and Dr. Keith Silverman were elected to serve on the school board for a four-year term. Thursday evening was the first meeting of their terms, and their terms will continue until December 31, 2026.
The board also elected Victoria Ireson as the School Board Clerk, and Andrea Gillus as the Deputy Clerk.
The board heard the following communications:
Chief Financial Officer Andrea Gillus presented the accounts payable warrants
Board Chair Graves shared the powers and duties of the school board as outlined in Policy BBA, as well as the duties of the Chair and Vice-Chair as outlined in Policy BCB.
The board took the following actions:
Approved personnel recommendations brought forward by Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Natalie Halloran
Approved the recommendation of MGT Consulting for the Facilities Master Plan Development (RFP-2223-505) brought forward by Chief Operations Officer Dr. Wayne Lyle
Approved a resolution for a Comprehensive Agreement with English Construction for Renovations at George Washington High School. This is in accordance with the Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act of 2022 and DPS’ guidelines for the implementation of the Public-Private Education Facilities & Infrastructure Act of 2002. The comprehensive agreement is the final step towards proceeding with construction and renovation of GW, which is projected to begin April 1.

During last week's Harry Johnson Holiday Classic basketball tournament, Bonner won the middle school tournament after round-robin style play with two other middle school teams. Bonner's Larry Warren Jr was honored with the tournament MVP award.
