Happenings Around Dry Creek Elementary

Dry Creek Families,

I cannot express enough how much I appreciate the Dry Creek community for the flexibility, perseverance, and kindness that you have shown this semester. We, as a community have worked together to establish lasting connections and provide rigorous learning for our students. As we finish the first semester, it is evident that every member of the community played a vital role in supporting our students and school. First, our teachers and staff have risen to the challenge and provided meaningful learning opportunities for our students both in-person and remotely. Thank you to our teachers and staff for the hard work and dedication! Secondly, our parents and family members have had to change and adapt to new plans, new ways of learning, and thinking outside the box on learning from home. Thank you parents and family members for the support and grace this semester. Lastly, our incredible students! Our students are the reason we exist and I couldn't be more proud of the work that our students have put in this semester. We are eager to see you back in-person as we step into 2021. In the meantime, I hope that everyone has a safe and restful Winter Break. For those who celebrate, Happy Holidays!

-Mr. Watanabe

Proposed Return to In-Person Learning in January

Dr. Siegfried sent a letter to the community on Tuesday outlining the plans for returning to in-person learning. I encourage all parents to read the letter from your e-mail inbox or access it here: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=13183. We are hopeful that we can return to in-person learning in early January provided that the COVID incident rate declines locally. As mentioned in the plans, here is the proposed phase-in schedule for returning to school in January.

  • Monday, January 4 – Furlough day for all staff, no school for students
  • Tuesday, January 5 – Teacher work day, no school for students
  • Wednesday, January 6 – Remote learning day for all students
  • Thursday, January 7 – Remote learning day for all students
  • Friday, January 8 – Remote learning day for all students
  • Monday, January 11 – Elementary students return to full In-Person learning. Middle and high school students return to In-Person learning using the new enhanced Hybrid learning schedule.

Dr. Siegfried will communicate with families no later than January 4, 2021 with final plans.

Virtual Open House on January 20, 2021

Do you have or know an incoming Kindergarten student? Do you have a friend or neighbor looking for a school home? Invite them to our upcoming Virtual Open House on January 20th. This event will give prospective families an overview of Dry Creek. Participants can expect a virtual tour of the school, hear from the principal, teachers, parents, and be able to ask questions about registration. Let your neighbors and friends know about this event, especially our new Kindergarten families! The flyer below can be shared with any prospective families!

Registration Information

Kindergarten Round Up

Incoming Kindergarten families to Dry Creek are asked to register for Kindergarten between February 1-February 5, 2021.

We encourage parents to pre-register their kindergarten-aged students for the coming school year. This helps us plan our school staff needs and provides parents with the needed information to help prepare for that important first year of school. Students currently attending a CCSD preschool do not need to register for Kindergarten. Non-Resident applications will be available online April 1st.

School of Choice Applications

The Cherry Creek School District gives its district residents the opportunity to apply for enrollment in the Cherry Creek school/program of their choice. Families may request that their child attend a Cherry Creek school outside the assigned attendance area. The School of Choice application is available online during the month of January. Please do not wait until the last minute to submit your application as late applications will not be accepted.

There are NO PAPER FORMS available for the School of Choice application process.

Applications are considered based on lottery and space availability. Priority is given to students with siblings currently attending the requested school and projected to return the following year. Priority is also given to children of district employees. There is a limit of one (1) application per student and all information is verified for accuracy.

Parents are notified of the results by March 15th. Appeals may be submitted in writing to District Admissions by April 15th. The Appeals Committee will review all letters received, and parents will be notified of the final decision by May 15th.
