Possible Digital Learning Day
GCPS has alerted us to prepare for the possibility of a Digital Learning Day. Due to the uncertain forecast associated with Hurricane Dorian, Gwinnett County Public Schools is monitoring the weather.
In the event that a school closure is necessary, the school district could opt to hold a Digital Learning Day rather than using an inclement weather make-up day as it is so early in the school year. If the decision is made to hold a Digital Learning Day, that will be communicated and school and district processes for online learning will go into effect. If a decision is made to use a standard make-up day, students and staff will not be expected to access assignments online.
Please assure before the end of school today that you:
a. Take home your laptop.
b. SHOW students where to access your Digital Learning Day Module.
c. Please view this video of our Digital Learning Day expectations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGUcb7yUOKE&feature=youtu.be
***Normally we would meet face-to-face to talk about DLD and plan for the day, but I created this video so that you could be aware just in case. The first 6-7 minutes goes over the expectations and the last half is a "how to."
I have also attached the PES expectations.
Here is a link to other helpful docs that I have on the training page located in Content> Tech Help by Stacey> Digital Learning Day
The county has a DLD eClass page to help you prepare:

A Digital Learning Day Flyer will be shared with parents in the eNews.
We know that we have had very little time to prepare, but we want you to have this information just in case. Let's keep our fingers crossed. :)

Count Day
At this time, we are collecting numbers for our enrollment. We will not be making any decisions or changes. Once numbers are finalized we will decide if any changes need to be made to accommodate class enrollment.
Student Password Plan-Teacher Action REQUIRED
Teachers,
The plan that we had in place for our passwords has been denied in its final stage. So...back to square one. You will take your kids into the labs and change their passwords or have them log on your student computers in your room to change their passwords. If you would like to change them all, you can also log each student on and do it yourself.
You must use a laptop or desktop (no Chromebooks).
It seems like any password plan we try to come up with for the whole school that follows a pattern of any type is being denied. So...you may come up with a password plan for your class, but it must follow these rules.
1. 8 or more characters (numbers and letters)
2. It should not use their name, any part of their student number, or birthday.
3. Each student must have a unique password (no two passwords are the same).
4. Can't be a pattern that another person could use to figure out or guess the password.
Stacey Gist has blocked off two days in the labs next week on September 3rd and 4th for you to use. Sign up in google.
If none of the times work for you, then you may sign up on the Google Resource Calendars for the Lions Lab or the Pride Lab (1st grade hallway) any day of your choice for a 30 minute block.
THIS MUST BE DONE BY: September 15.
Have your students write down their passwords on an index card or you can create a card for them so that you can keep them in a secure place for reference. I also recommend that you or your students write the passwords down in their agenda or Choice Cards in a "private" place for their parents.
For Technology Specials: If you have technology specials, please send your students with their passwords so that they can log onto the computers.
If a student gets locked out of their account, don't forget that you can always go into My Students and unlock or reset their password. If you unlock their password, then they can login and try again. If you reset their password, then it resets the password to the student number and you MUST have them change their password again (Ctl, Alt, Delete- Change Password)
See email from Stacey Gist for Teacher Directions to Unlock a student who gets locked out.

Celebrate Small Wins!
It's important for us to celebrate the small wins. Last week I was struggling with how to get "Chase Clark" to clean his room. I shared my expectations and the consequence for him not cleaning his room. I have to say, the room is clean (at least for now). So, I will celebrate the clean room even if it is short lived. My take away...celebrate! #momlife #thestruggleisreal #lovebothmykiddos
