D Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
December 2022
From the Principal
Happy December, everyone!
First, I'd like to thank you for making the time to meet with us last month for parent teacher conferences. Discussing student growth and achievement is always a highlight of our school year, and knowing that we have your unwavering support means the world to us! Be sure to mark your calendars for our second round of conferences. Most of them will take place on February 28th and March 2nd.
The weeks leading up to Winter Break are always an exciting time here at Fairview, and this year will be no different! The month is jam-packed with themed dress-up days, assemblies, field trips, class parties, and high levels of teaching and learning! Please don't be afraid to reach out to any of us if you have questions about anything that is going on.
Sincerely,
Dr. Simmons, Principal

Holiday Charity Drive
Every year until the onset of Covid-19, Fairview held a tradition of adopting 6 local charities during the month of December. These charities benefit directly from the generosity of our students and their families, but more importantly, we believe that endeavors like this teach our kids the importance of giving, empathy, and supporting OUR place/community. It brings me great joy to inform you that we will re-start the tradition this December!
Below, you can find the charity that was adopted by each grade level. We will be prepared to accept items December 12th-16th. Be on the lookout for correspondence from your child's teacher with more details!

We're pleased to share with you that Miss Vivian Visconti will be our new kitchen manager following Miss Feriel's retirement at the end of the month. She will spend much of December shadowing Feriel and familiarizing herself with Fairview.
If you are interested in contributing to Miss Feriel's retirement gift, here's how you can do that!
From the Nurse's Office
All Kindergarten students will receive a vision screening on Tuesday, December 20th at Fairview Elementary by KidSight.
KidSight uses a portable, automated vision screener that can detect common causes of childhood vision problems. The device takes a photo of the child’s eyes from three feet away and a KidSight screening technician is immediately given a “pass” or “refer” result. The child does not have to say anything and the screening only takes a few seconds.
All result forms will be sent home to the parent/guardian.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this screening please contact Nurse Rachel at
214-3590 or rwillenberg@cpsk12.org
Specialist Updates
Another note from the gym! Classes have finished up throwing and catching skills. We’ve been playing various game in different grade levels—Touchdowns, 3 Catch Capture, Asteroids and Spaceships and Box Ball. Just recently we’ve begun our Non-locomotor skills unit—balances, animal walks, rolls and wheels. Be sure to ask your kids what’s going on! Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! I’ve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board. Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
In art class students have been learning about portraits, which is an artwork showing people or animals as the main thing! Each grade level has been working on different techniques. Ask your artist what portraits they have been creating! Please reach out with any questions lrobb@cpsk12.org
