Ambassador Elections

Democracy in Action

On Monday, election fever hit Ripon Cathedral School. Ten candidates from Year 6 gave their presentations to the whole school about why they should be elected as School Lead Ambassadors. Year 6's work on oracy and persuasion was used effectively to deliver some super speeches outlining why each pupil would be fabulous in the role.

As a school we learnt about the British value of democracy and after the speeches were finished pupils were given the chance to cast their votes!

The returning office double checked the count and announced the winners to a very excited Year 6 class.

Finlay and Eva were announced as duly elected to the positions of lead boy and girl Ripon Cathedral ambassadors. Both pupils ran great campaigns and they are really looking forward to working with their team to make a difference in the school.

Well done to everybody who was involved!

European Day of Languages

As part of European day of Languages, pupils across the school came in red and yellow, the colours of the flag of Spain.

At lunch time children enjoyed a Spanish themed lunch, including delicious frittata. Thank you to the school cooks for providing this special menu. At the end of the day children came together to share fun facts about Spain, Spanish songs and some of their recent learning.

Many thanks to Mrs Binks and Mrs Shawcross for organising the day.

Improve your whole family's Spanish!

We have an exciting opportunity coming up for one family to strengthen their European links and language skills even more! If you would like to host our Spanish exchange teaching student from Monday 5th November for 12 weeks (except Christmas), please contact Mrs Binks. Basic costs are covered and your guest will help with housework/babysitting and encourage your children to speak Spanish too.

How did the Great Fire of London start?

Our Year 2 pupils baked bread on Monday in order to learn all about how the fire in the bakery on Pudding Lane started the Great Fire of London in 1666. Their bread was delicious, and of course they followed instructions carefully so no fires were started at school!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning; it was fantastic to participate in this nationwide event in our own school. It was a great success thanks to the involvement of the whole school community. The Early Years' staff worked hard running the event, our Oscar's children baked after school to provide buns and perfectly chewy flapjack, and many parents and governors also brought in a range of baking. A final thanks to everyone who came along to enjoy the very busy coffee morning.

Year 2 welcome worship

This week the Year 2 children led worship in the chapel for their family and friends on the theme of 'Respect'. They began their worship by sharing their own thoughts about what respect means, showing video clips they made demonstrating the value. They then went on to share their own objects which they respect and explained why. Worship ended with a prayer and everyone joined in singing 'Beautiful World'.

Safer Parking

First for the good news! We can help you to park more safely as we have parking permits for the St Marygate car park (lower Sainsbury's car park) which enable you to leave your car there at both drop off and pick up times for up to 50 minutes. As it's not even a five minute walk to school from the car park, you'll have time to pop into town too! Please ask Mrs Bingham if you're interested.

The bad news is that we have received multiple complaints for inappropriately parked cars from local residents and parents, who are very concerned that poor parking puts all the children at risk. Please avoid the stress of finding somewhere legal and safe to park, by asking for a parking pemit.

Oscar's Wrap Around Care

Oscar's is back to its regular hours, opening for breakfast from 8am and running to 5.45pm after school. Booking is made using our online booking site. Just use the email address you have provided to school as your username and click 'forgotten password' the first time you use it. Please email us at school if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Due to staffing issues, it will not be possible to run any Oscar's days in the October half term break. However, we will be open for the full day on the Friday 19th October training day at a bargain cost of £20 for 8am to 5.15pm or £15 for 8am to 1pm/1pm to 5.15pm.

Pupil Data Collection Forms

Thank you to everyone who has returned the record sheets so that we know we have all your details up to date. Can we politely remind the rest of you to check the form carefully? Please return the sheet whether there are any changes to make or not. We need to be sure that we have up to date information, for example on parent contact numbers or medical needs. Thank you.
