Orchard Lane Elementary School
Weekly Newsletter: February 12, 2021
A Note from Mr. Lindner and Mrs. Kader:
Happy Valentine's Day and 3 Day Weekend for our students! We had a fun afternoon of parties!
This week we highlighted two very important people as part of our study in Black History and our country’s Civil Rights Movement.
Jesse Owens - Olympic Athlete who won 4 gold medals in the Berlin Games in 1936. This was especially significant because it defied Adolf Hitler’s contention that his white German athletes were far superior to any others in the world.
Martin Luther King Jr. - Civil Rights Leader who consistently taught others to engage in nonviolent demonstrations and winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. Next week we will be sharing his role in the March on Washington and his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Mr. Lindner and Mrs. Kader are excited to announce that we are soliciting parent interest to join an ANTI-BULLYING COALITION here at Orchard Lane. This coalition will be made up of parents, staff, and students and it will be charged with the following tasks:
Create a common understanding of what bullying is
Share the impact bullying has on our school community
Create a common understanding of the steps we take to be responsive to bullying that is either observed or reported
Highlight how we can continue to be PROACTIVE in our efforts to stop bullying before it begins.
We have applied for licenses to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s four-part series on anti-bullying. We were just informed that we received all the licenses we requested. We will be using the content of these modules to frame our discussions around bullying here at Orchard Lane. If you would like to hear more about becoming involved in this important work, please CLICK THIS LINK to give us your name and contact information. Thank you!! We are very excited to get started.
Parent University Lecture Series: Calm Parents, Calm Kids: Managing Your Own Reactivity (Virtual)
Tuesday, March 23, 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Presented by: Growing Minds Inc.
Though your body doesn't speak to you when stressed, it does send ongoing signals in the form of feelings and sensations. Noticing those feelings can soften them, allowing you to move beyond the stress. Consistently modeling the mindful behavior you wish to see in your children produces ripple effects that will benefit your entire family. Learn to identify and document your stress signature so that when you feel strong emotions inhibiting your wellbeing, you can "name them to tame them".

From the Library:
Parents/Guardians please help keep our library books safe. During winter wet gloves, hats etc.. may be put in your child’s backpack. We ask that you designate a safe spot in the backpack just for library books, even perhaps keeping a plastic back in that spot to put the books in! Thank you for your cooperation.Reminder for Student
Item Drop Offs-
If you are dropping anything off for your student after the school day has started, please use the silver cart in the front foyer area. There are post-it notes and a pen in a blue basket to write the student's name and teacher, if you remember it, on the item. We will check the cart periodically during the day and get those items out to the student as soon as we can. Thank you for using the silver cart and knowing that we understand the importance of getting the items out to your child.

The Orchard Lane Spelling Bee took place in early January via a virtual format. It was so wonderful to see so many students participate! We want to recognize everyone for their efforts and hard work on a tricky test.
Orchard Lane would like to congratulate Pranshi C, Vivaan C, Sreehitha N, and Hevanth P for advancing to the District Spelling Bee.
Furthermore, we would like to extend a "good luck" to Sreehitha N. and Hevanth P. who are moving on to the next level of competition representing the School District of New Berlin.
Thank you to all participants! We look forward to seeing you all back again for next year's Spelling Bee.School Picture Ordering:
