May -- the Month of Commencement
George Bush as speaker at Southern Methodist University's Saturday commencement in Dallas got a laugh when he said, "[To] those of you who are graduating this afternoon with high honors, awards, and distinctions, I say 'well done,' and as I like to tell the 'C' students -- 'you too can be president.' " As teachers, we have loved them all. We have given so much of ourselves to our students, and we can predict the ones who should be or could be president. Just think of how far your influence will go. To that I say, "Well done, ladies!" Beta Xi President Karen Stillwell
Our Next Meeting
Our end of the year meeting will be a salad and dessert dinner honoring our 2015 scholarship winner, future teacher Ali Brooke McDonald. Join us at the home of Pat May, 2607 Rockybrook Road, Opelika, at 6:00.
Needs for Our Meeting
Remember to bring along with your dessert or salad the following things: your ideas to give to Kay for next year's programs, your decision on what month you might like to host a meeting, bears or mittens for Kay to take to Children's this month, school supplies for your reps to take to Fun Day, novels that you want to donate to our Agora table at Fun Day, monetary donations for Books on the Move, door prize dollars, and registration money if you've decided to go with us to Fun Day.
Fun Day
Registration for Fun Day has been extended a week to May 29 because teachers are so busy at this time. Remember we'll be having a Beta Xi spend-the -night party on June 8 in Tuscaloosa and will enjoy Fun Day on June 9 until 2:00 after which we will head home. Bring your $20 check for registration made out to Epsilon Alpha Delta Kappa. Talk to Kay about a room because that deadline is still May 22.
Fraternity Education
Our Beta Xi Policies and Procedures Handbook gives these as the duties of our newly revived Courtesy Committee, now headed by Chairman Gail Swarthout and Co-Chair Susan Hagan. "The Courtesy Committee shall be responsible for courtesies extended to visiting state or district officers; hospitalized members; family of an Omega member; the memorial for a member's husband, parent, or child; and shall mail Get-Well, Sympathy, or Congratulatory notes or cards to chapter members and district, state, regional, and international officers if so directed by the chapter."
Our Sweet Jeanet
We are all sending love to Jeanet Trammell in ICU at EAMC. Thank you, Beta Xi sisters, for your prayers.
