EARLY PICK UP REMINDER
If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please pick them up no later than 2:15 (1:15 on Wednesdays). The buses arrive in front of school no later than 2:30 (and 1:30 on Wednesday). Coming no later than 2:15 will ensure the pickup will not interfere with the bus arrival and the beginning of our dismissal process. We appreciate your understanding.
ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and community members,
The changing and dropping of leaves is a sure sign that we are fully into fall and the school year! We continue to feel so fortunate to live where we do, enabling us to take learning in and out of the building frequently. This coming Monday and Tuesday, school is not in session at CCS. Monday, to honor Indiginous Peoples Day and Tuesday for "Parent Conference Flex Day'' as you’ll see on the district calendar. Teachers may schedule conferences on this day, but they may also offer them at different times throughout the month. If you have not set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact them for this opportunity.
January of 2022, families and members of the Charlotte Community were asked to complete a survey sharing what they hoped would be a priority for our school coming out of the COVID pandemic. One key theme was to build community within CCS. Families and caregivers hoped for schoolwide experiences. They hoped students would find opportunities to experience generosity and to give to others. Families and caregivers wanted all students to feel cared about and appreciated for being themselves and there was a hope that students could have time to help others within their community.
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for the feedback and to tell you, we heard you. Today, the students in 5th grade led a whole-school morning meeting. The greatness of these student-led activities is the modeling of leadership, empathy, caring and acceptance. They shared a book called, I’m Here by Peter H. Reynolds and talked about what being “here” means to those around us. You’ll have to check with your child(ren) about the school-wide activity. The MPR was filled with smiles.
Another example of boosting community comes from the Community Wellness class led by Matt Kent and Amy Sayre for 7/8 graders. They have spent a couple of classes talking about what it means to be a part of a community - what it looks, feels, sounds like. After that, groups of 3 or 4 began a community action project. "Community" can be school, town, state and we will look to them for planning and implementation. We hope our families and the broader Charlotte community will keep an eye out for some of the creative and caring activities they are organizing.
We wish you a wonderful fall weekend!
All the best,
Jen, Courtney and Beth

OCTOBER 10TH IS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
This October, our community partner, Howard Center, is offering free webinars “for community education and engagement to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and to connect to the global movement to ensure our communities have access to mental health support when they are needed”. On their World Mental Health Day pages, you’ll find the full roster for speaker series (advance registration is required) and a host of resources which include ways to reach out to Howard Center and other local and national organizations. There are articles and publications that address a variety of real life topics many of us are facing. Please take time to look, to learn and to always reach out if you or a loved one needs help. There are some things in life you should never face alone.

Thanks to our DEI Coach Ainaka Luna and Educators Katie Fraser and Heidi Huestis for coordinating an awesome day!
