Schoology and SRG---March 11th
On March 11th, a portion of our PD with our cohort will be regarding how to put digital bodies of evidence into Schoology. You will need to bring your laptop and/or iPad (fully charged) and earbuds for this meeting! Most of you will find laptops to be easier than your iPads. In this meeting, everyone will be participating in an online course for how to set up your course and grades in Schoology. We will talk more about what kinds of digital bodies of evidence you can collect through Schoology in future faculty meetings. As you are going through the course, keep your mind open to the possibilities of what you can do. Be more focused on how you want this to work for you and less about what you think the kids are capable of doing. Since we found out that the district was going to be rolling out this plan, we started working with all of our students in Schoology in their media classes. All of our 1st through 5th graders have already submitted at least one assignment through Schoology. Our kindergartners have accessed links through Schoology and we will tackle assignment submissions soon. This really does not have to be a complicated thing! We will do our best to support the students' understanding of how to use Schoology so that you are not teaching this skill along with your actual curriculum!
I am circulating around this week to those who told me that they are using their school email address for family communication with the district---just to make sure that everything in Schoology is going to work on that day!
You've Been Book'd!!!! (Show-Me Nominees and More)
Are you a 4th or 5th grade class that also wants to be "book'd"? You can receive Show-Me books and vote along with the younger grades also. Or I can select a few books for you to choose from---picture books, chapter books, biographies, non-fiction....you name what subject you want!
Coronavirus
As the coronavirus becomes a hotter topic in the news and our students' households, you might be getting some questions. Here are a couple of resources to help guide your students:
Brain POP has recently created a video about coronavirus and how it is spread. There is a video along with a quiz and several activities. Remember that your students can always access Brain POP through ClassLink (automatic sign in). Here is a direct link to the coronavirus video: https://www.brainpop.com/health/diseasesinjuriesandconditions/coronavirus/
NPR has also released a printable comic explaining what coronavirus is and how it is spread. This link contains that comic as well as a 3 minute audio explanation. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/02/28/809580453/just-for-kids-a-comic-exploring-the-new-coronavirus?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social
