Congratulations Kim Newell, Director of Human Resources - Certificated Staff
The Yakima School District is proud to announce that Kim Newell will serve in the role of Director of Human Resources - Certificated Staff beginning July 1. Kim is currently a Principal on Special Assignment at Robertson Elementary School, a role that is temporary in nature.
Kim graduated from Lewis-Clark State College with a double bachelor of science major in secondary education and chemistry with a minor in physics and mathematics. She received her master’s degree in professional development from Heritage University. Kim went on to get her National Board Certification in EA mathematics in 2008 as well as her administrative certificate from Heritage University in 2013.
She started teaching 9th-grade math and science in Lewiston, Idaho, and then at Mead High School in Spokane. She moved back to the Yakima Valley where she was a math coach at the elementary level in Selah for two years and then taught math at Selah Junior High until 2013. Kim has taught everything from kindergarten (as a sub) through 12th grade AP Chemistry. Kim was hired by the YSD in 2013 to be an assistant principal split between Gilbert and Robertson elementary. Kim became the principal of Whitney Elementary in 2016 and moved to Robertson as the principal on special assignment in 2021. She has loved her work with her Robertson family, but she knew the position was temporary in nature.
Kim states that she looks forward to being able to use her strengths in creating systems and building relationships in order to create positive work environments for all staff in the Yakima School District. I am excited to serve and support as many staff and students as I can. I am excited about the current Human Resources team in place and the opportunity to collaborate with the Teaching and Learning department to have a greater impact on staff and students.
