SBS Advisory E NewsLetter

Advisory Board Meeting

My main objective for our meeting in January was to share the final budget numbers for the 2014-2015 school year. To date, we do not have that information. I will be scheduling the next meeting this week (it will be in February). There are a number of things it looks like I am going to need assistance with.

We have started the New Year off on a great note!

SONYC (Schools Out New York City) Grant

I'm excited to say that we have been awarded a SONYC Grant for $495,000 over three years. This grant is to provide resources for a free, comprehensive after school program for students in Grades 6, 7 & 8. We are partnering with the community organization Grand Street Settlement to provide an excellent after school program.

What it means for parents is a free after school at St. Brigid for their middle school children. That's a cost savings of up to $1,800 per year for families. The program is scheduled to begin March 2nd.

An application is being submitted for a K-5 free After School Program (through COMPASS Grant) also in partnership with Grand Street Settlement.

Principal ~ Family Meeting

We had the first principal ~ family meeting of the new year this past Tuesday evening.

This meetings theme was family financial planning. The guest speaker was Ms. Joan Wilton. Ms. Wilton is a Financial Representative with the Professional Economic Growth Group.

The meeting was well attended. The Family Association provided a sweet & savory bake sale.

Catholic Schools' Week

St Brigid will celebrate Catholic Schools' Week from Monday, January 26th through Friday, January 30th. There is a host of activities planned for our students.

The theme of Catholic Schools' Week is: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service

Kindergarten Learns the Letter S....

What better way for our kindergarten class to remember the sound of S than by making these adorable little SNOWMEN MADE FROM SOCKS!

Pre-K 3.... Movin' on Up

The PreK-3 class received some prime real estate this past weekend when a library loft was installed in their classroom. What a surprise and oh how they loved their new space!! The new loft is not only a great play space but it also provides a comfortable, quiet space to develop a love of books.
