News & Announcements
CLASS OF 2023 Senior Spotlight
Meet the Class of 2023's Surabi Shanmugam, a former Green Ridge Gator, who will graduate at the age of 16. Surabi was admitted into the Mensa Honor Society and National Honor Society. She received a platinum level Certificate of Achievement from Mensa Honor Society for her character, participation, leadership, scholarship, and service, and she is a Global Scholar award recipient from the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg.
Following graduation, Surabi is planning to attend the University of Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in Biological Science. Outside of her studies, she spends her time on music, creative arts, mentoring young students to prepare for the annual spelling bee competition, and volunteering. During this academic year, she volunteered more than 450 hours at four different community organizations.
Congratulations to Surabi and the entire Class of 2023.
Our first-grade artists at Green Ridge Elementary School recently finished a clay pinch pot turtle pond project. Check out this video, courtesy Art Teacher Katlyn Baer, to learn how they made their turtle ponds and to see some of the amazing finished projects. Their turtle ponds, in addition to many other art projects, will be on display during the Green Ridge May Fair later this month.
CV9 Student Shares Inspiring Story
CV9's Ky Wolf was recently invited to the Girls on the Run Limitless potential breakfast to speak in front of hundreds of adults to share an inspiring story of finding self confidence, strength, and the power of personal voice. Congratulations, Ky, on demonstrating confidence, communication, and more!

Special Olympics 2023
After multiple raindates, the skies were sunny and beautiful over Chapman Field on May 11, 2023, as students and supporters gathered at the stadium for our Special Olympics. Nearly 500 student athletes and student volunteers, in addition to staff and community members, came together to host the event for K-12 Olympians from across the district. Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful event, and congratulations to all of our Olympians!
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Congratulations to Middlesex Elementary School's Leif Abeln and Braylee Roush who were honored during a recent Harrisburg Senator's game as All Star Students. Third-grade teacher Melissa Hester said Leif and Braylee were nominated for the recognition because they've excelled in displaying our Portrait of an Eagle competencies. They are a Portrait of an Eagle!

Additional Reminders
Reminder: Change to Start/End Times for Eastern Elementary Schools
District administration has been working over the past year to identify ways to return our eastern elementary schools to an earlier start time. With the identification of an additional transportation service and new drivers, we believe we are able to move Hampden, Shaull, Sporting Hill, and Winding Creek Elementary schools back to a 9:15 a.m. start time, with an end time of 3:55 p.m., beginning next school year.
Please click the Quick Access link below to view the anticipated 2023-24 instructional day schedule by building for each school across the district. (NOTE: Hours in which the building is physically open and students are permitted to enter for the start of the day vary by building.)
