Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter
February 26,2020
What is going on?
Mrs. Bendlin came in to our class this week and donated items for the kids to do a service project. The kids made blessing bags for the homeless. Each student made a bag and is supposed to donate the items to a person in need. This is very meaningful and special! The kids had a wonderful time.
We are needing a box of cookie crisp cereal to get us motivated in multiplication next week. Please let me know if you can help.
Our Fun Run is tomorrow during our Specials time- 11:40. Bring a sharpie and please help mark laps if you can carve it out of your day.
We have a geometry and area test and Spelling test this Friday.
Next week we are working on:
Reading: Students will continue to recognize characteristics of folktales, fables, and legends. They will determine story elements, theme, and author’s purpose.
Writing: This week, students will use what they learned from last week to write a how to on something they already know how to do well.
Spelling: Big, with, will, your, this, anything, between, friend
Grammar: Students will learn that adverbs help tell the reader important information using time words.
Science: We will explore how plants meet their basic needs. This week our focus will be on the parts of the flower, the plant life cycle, and amazing carnivorous plants.
Math: In math we’ll start a three week unit on multiplication and division. We really want the kids to understand that multiplication is simply combining equal groups and division is separating equal groups. We will use arrays to solve multiplication problems. We’ll work on problem solving and reinforce problem solving skills as they relate to multiplication and division word problems.

This and That-
We are super excited to invite you to participate in Sommer Elementary Schools first ever Youth Code Jam which will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 1-4pm. A Community Code Jam is a hands-on workshop bringing together students, parents and volunteer programmers to learn and grow with code. Registration for students is now open! Space is limited so register soon. http://bit.ly/SOEScodejam
In order to make this event a success we need volunteers to lead stations. Our hope is that you will spread the word at your jobs and bring/send a team with you to lead one station. Our primary goal is to expose our students to coding. You don’t have to know how to code in order to volunteer!
Don’t have a station idea? That's ok! We can provide an activity for you. Have your own idea of what you want to do? Great! We love that too.
If you are interested please fill out the google form. Feel free to contact Danielle Jackson, Danielle_Jackson@roundrockisd.org for any other questions. Volunteers sign up here: http://bit.ly/SOESCodejam
