Tissue Types
Anatomy and Physiology
Epithelial Tissue
There are four functions for the epithelial tissue. Protection, absorption, filtration and excretion, secretion, and sensory perception are the functions. The form of these functions are our skin for protection, inside our stomach and intestinal lining is where absorption takes place. Our Kidney is used for filtration and excretion, our glands secrete hormones, and if innervated our sensory perception.
Connective Tissue
Six functions for connective tissue would be how it connects, binds and supports structures like our bones. It protects and cushions organs and tissues, extracellular matrix can bear weight, stretch , and take abuse like our cartilage. Adipose insulates and stores fat like our skin. Blood transports substances, Bone provides frame work and protection.
Muscle Tissue
The muscle types skeletal which is attached to bones, smooth is found on organ walls and blood vessel walls, and cardiac is found in the heart walls. The main function of skeletal is for body movement, smooth is for moving blood, food and waste through the body's organs, and cardiac is for synchronous contractions of heart beat.
Nervous Tissue
The nervous tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It generates and transmits nerve impulses to and from body organs via neurons. Also some cells (neuroglia) support, insulate and protect neurons.
