Dear Cub Community,

We are wrapping up a wonderful year of learning and we are reflecting on all of our successes! Just the fact that we have had a happy, healthy year with our doors open, students in our classrooms, and visible smiles is a celebration in itself!

As we count down the days until summer vacation, here is how you can support your child’s learning:

  • Require your child to attend school daily. Our curriculum and programs have instruction right up until the final bell and we don’t want your child to miss out!

  • Remind your child of our school expectations - Be ready! Be respectful! Be responsible! Be safe!

  • Keep a calendar of important events, dates, and times. Your child’s teacher will be sending information in their newsletters. Read the information and mark it on your calendars.

  • Stay in touch! If you have questions, call the school. Word-of-mouth in the community or on non-school social media links can sometimes prove unreliable. If you have questions or concerns, come to the source!

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Pomeroy

Side Walk Chalk Day

Sidewalk Chalk Day is on May 20 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and volunteers are needed! It's a fun day for our students outside to create! If your are interested in volunteering, you MUST complete a background check through the BISD online.

To volunteer for Side Walk Chalk Day, please click HERE.

For Sidewalk Chalk Day, your beloved student has created his/her blueprint or design proposal for the sidewalk. A huge host of teachers and staff voted on the chosen piece to go outside. Mrs. Niedecken does not vote due to helping all our artists create their masterpieces. The voting is nonbiased and anonymous. One design from each class is chosen and that artist asks up to four others to assist in recreating their design outside.

Tips for Preventing Summer Reading Slide

This week in library classes, we discussed the importance of reading during the summer. Research shows that students who do not read or have access to books during the summer months can lose up to 2 months of reading progress! Set your child up for success next year by:

1. Visiting the Patrick Heath Public Library! Our public library is an amazing facility and offers an engaging summer reading program.

2. Making sure your child reads 20 minutes a day, three to four times a week.

3. Participating in a summer reading program. You can participate in the CCES Summer Reading Challenge, Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program, and Scholastic Home Base.

4. Utilizing ebooks through Sora (located in your child’s Clever account).

5. Reading for different purposes. Reading directions or recipes are great ways to incorporate reading into your everyday activities.

Reminders

School Registration and Enrollment

Registration and Enrollment for the 2022-23 school year is NOW OPEN! Please note that you MUST still enroll your student even if they are returning to Cibolo Creek next year. Be sure to click on the registration tile in your Skyward account for the NEXT SCHOOL YEAR to enroll your student(s).

Handicapped Parking

Please do not park in handicapped parking spaces without the appropriate placard or designation. Violators may be ticketed.

Important Safety Note

In order to keep all Cubs safe, we are asking that students refrain from riding electric scooters, electric bikes, and dirt bikes to school. We know Santa may have some of these items in his sleigh but they are not appropriate for school and are presenting a safety risk during arrival and dismissal. Additionally, the campus cannot be responsible if these items are damaged or stolen while on campus. We encourage all of our students to build their muscles by walking, pedaling a bike, and pushing their scooters to school.

Manners Matter

"Children these days just don't have any manners!"

Adults have been saying this for generations, perhaps forever. The key to teaching children manners is by modeling and practicing.

We need to work on our children's manners to stop arguments, build relationships, foster respect, and help them understand the views of other people.

Here is a list of suggested manners to teach your child:

CCES Cub Closet

Our Cub Closet is a resource for families to use when they are in need. If they need shorts, shoes, jackets, school supplies they can look in the Cub closet. We are looking for some volunteers to help organize it so items are easier to locate for our students.

Room Parent Volunteer Opportunities

We are excited to welcome volunteers back on campus this year! If you are interested in serving as a room parent for your child's classroom, please click the link below to see which teachers still need a room parent. Volunteers in this position serve for one school year, and assist the teacher with activities such as planning the class Christmas party and organizing teacher treats during Teacher Appreciation Week. Parent/guardian volunteers are vital to the success of our school, and we appreciate any way you can give back. As a reminder, all volunteers on campus MUST complete a background check online prior to serving on campus or during a school activity.

Frequently Asked Attendance Questions

Below are some frequent questions we receive in the front office regarding attendance. We hope that these FAQs help you when your child is absent from school. Should you have specific questions regarding your child's attendance, please feel free to contact our attendance secretary Melanie Bostic in the front office at 830-357-4400.

My child is sick and needs to stay home. What do I need to do?

If your child is sick, please keep them home so that they can rest and recover. As a reminder, your child must be fever and sick free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. You are welcome to call the front office to let us know your child is sick for the day, but we encourage you to email the teacher as well that morning. We are required to have a written note (email, handwritten parent note or doctor note) for the absence to be excused.

Why am I receiving an unexcused absence notice for my child?

Skyward generates an automated email to parents as soon as the teacher submits attendance for the day and marks a student absent. This email states that your child appears to have an unexcused absence for the day. Upon receiving a written note from the parent, our attendance secretary will update your child’s absence to excused. Please note that it may take several days for attendance to be updated.

What types of absences are excused?

The following absences are considered excused: illness, family emergency, death in family, sponsored 4H activities, doctor/dentist appointments, counseling appointments and attending a parent’s military deployment day.

Absences for family vacations and travel are unexcused absences. Absence notes with no details regarding the absence will also be marked unexcused.

My child is late for school. Do I need to walk them inside?

Yes. The tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. If you are dropping them off at school after that time, please walk your child inside and sign them in at the visitor kiosk so that they can get a tardy slip printed.

I need to check my child out early. What do I do?

Please come inside to the front office window to sign your child out early at the visitor kiosk. You must bring your driver’s license. Students can only be checked out early by an authorized parent/guardian or emergency contact listed in Skyward. We WILL NOT release a student to an adult not listed as an authorized pick-up person in the student’s Skyward account.

Remote Conferencing Information

If your child is quarantined, they are required to participate in the BISD Remote Conferencing program through Google Meet. This service provides instructional support to your child with their current classroom assignments. Remote Conferencing is not the same as virtual learning, nor is it similar to BISD E-Learning option from the 20-21 school year.

During remote conferencing, your student's classroom teacher will not be instructing students through synchronous (live) instruction, rather assignments will be posted to their district Learning Management System (LMS) for students to complete during their remote learning schedule.

Please review the complete information about Remote Conferencing, as well all of the Covid 19 protocols set in place by the BISD.

Important School Policies

Safety

  • Talk to your children about using the cross walks when walking home from school. Crossing the street diagonally can be dangerous.
  • Drivers should leave plenty of space near cross walks when parking so there is plenty of room for adults and children to see oncoming traffic.

  • Drop students off in the front driveway only. Do not drop them off on Herff Ranch and have them cross the parking lot.

Visitors

  • Visitors must check in at the front desk and obtain a visitors pass before volunteering or visiting with your student. Please present your drivers license to the front window and our front office staff will be happy to assist you.

Attendance
  • Our school day begins at 7:25 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. We look forward to seeing your student on time each day. If your child eats breakfast at school, please have them arrive in the cafeteria in plenty of time to eat and get to class before the tardy bell!

  • Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.

  • Please have your child attend school all day, everyday, unless they are sick. Please schedule appointments for after school whenever possible! We appreciate your support making the full instruction day an important part of your family's schedule.
