October 15, 2023
Fall is upon us and October is filled with many exciting events and happenings. Teachers are prepping for conferences with all of you! The end of the first quarter is the end of this week. And Friday the 20th is a fall break day with no school in session.
The book fair is all set and ready to welcome our families into the new library during conferences! The collaboration with the Bookshelf is wonderful. They bring so many great new books and many of your child's favorites too! Don't forget to visit while you are in the building for conferences.
Please look over the information below to stay in the know.

Vegetable Tasting Tuesday!
Fall is the season of pumpkins! It was also our vegetable, scientifically a fruit, for this month's Vegetable Tasting Tuesday! Our very own Madeira High School students in Ms. Kat Howell's Creative Foods class baked pumpkin muffins for our students at MES! These eggless muffins were a huge hit! Here is the recipe to try at home. It's a fun and tasty activity!
Pumpkin Muffins - Makes 12 regular sized muffins
1 3/4 cups of white or wheat all purpose flour - we made it half white and half wheat.
1 cup organic cane sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1,15 ounce can of pumpkin puree
1/2 cup non-dairy milk - we used extra creamy Oat Milk
1/2 cup coconut oil - melted
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix pumpkin puree, milk and coconut in the mixer. Mix sugar and flour in a separate bowl. Then add it to the pumpkin mix. Mix all the spices and salt together in a bowl then add them to the pumpkin mixture. Grease a mini muffin pan or regular muffin pan or use the liners. Pour mixture into muffin pans. Bake for 15 to 20 min. Enjoy!
Tardies are tallying up!
As we approach the end of the first quarter, I wanted to remind parents doing morning drop off. We have had a number of tardy students lately. Please be sure to arrive a few minutes before 9am, anyone dropped off after 9am is marked tardy.
Support the PTO - Drive Closing October 31st!
The MES PTO has big plans for this school year, and we need parent support to achieve our goals!
Right now our membership rate is low compared to previous years. You can purchase your PTO membership here Join the PTO (madeirapto.com).
Your $30 contribution will allow us to do important things like: provide meals for our teachers during conferences, support initiatives like Walk to School Day and Vegetable Tasting Tuesday, fund GOT Art week, provide bussing to and from school field trips, and much more. Visit https://madeirapto.com to learn more or send an email to email@example.com with any questions. Thank you for your support & good luck for the raffle!

Get the chance to hang and help in our amazing new media center!
I'm the MES PTO Library Help Coordinator for the 2023-2024 school year. Below is a link to a sign-up genius form that can be shared in the weekly newsletter. The form requests help in the MES Media Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11am as requested by Mrs. Moose.
Here is the description of the volunteer position in the link: The new MES Library is looking for volunteers to help with covering new books and shelving returned books over the next few weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11am. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for all you do!
Help us stock the MES Care Closet!
MES is opening a Care Closet to help give back to families in need within our community. We are collecting school supplies, backpacks, clothes, frozen food/non-perishables, and household items (such as laundry detergent, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, etc.).
If you would like to donate, feel free to bring these items to the MES Front Office. If you have any questions, please connect with our School Counselors, Christin Bohrofen and Emory Bergdoll.
Thank you for your amazing generosity!
