Aiming to Keep You Informed

November 20, 2020

From the Office

Yesterday, our students attended a virtual assembly with Mr. Adam Kimble during their acceleration period. Mr Kimble's message to our students focused on perseverance, team work, and kindness towards others. It was an inspiring message that we felt would be very timely for our students as they navigate a world that is increasingly more stressful and challenging. We appreciate Mr. Kimble visiting with us and sharing his personal journey! We encourage parents to follow up at home with their child and discuss what their takeaways may have been from Mr. Kimble's story.

Virtually Ever After

Last night, Westfield drama presented Virtually Ever After. It was amazing to see all the hard work and thought that went into making this show happen. Congratulations to all our students in the cast and crew for all their work, ideas, and leadership because these are truly student run productions. Also, a huge thank you and congratulations to our Directors: Mrs. Bringer, Mrs. McGinn and Mrs. Greene. Thank you for all your support and time! (See pictures below)

End of the 1st Trimester

Today, November 20th, marks the end of the 1st Trimester. Teachers will have until December 4th to complete the grading process, so please check with your child if they have any missing assignments or assessments to complete. Report Cards will be sent home the week of December 7th.

Academic Honors Recognition

For 6th graders we will be shifting to a new format, called the ARROW Award, that recognizes students yearly who demonstrate excellence in a combination of academics, citizenship, and effort. With our transition to Standards-Based grading, we will no longer have a GPA for 6th graders to determine Honors eligibility. Staff members will collaborate to nominate a list of students in 6th grade for the 1st trimester and each trimester more names will be added to the ARROW Award list. All 6th grade students who are selected will receive an ARROW Award ribbon and their names will be displayed in our main hallway.

For 7th and 8th graders, we will continue to use their grade point average (GPA) to determine Honor Roll eligibility. All 7th & 8th graders who qualify for Highest Honors (3.8 - 4.0), High Honors (3.5 - 3.79), and Honors (3.2 - 3.49) based on their 1st trimester GPA will receive a corresponding Honors ribbon with their report cards and their names will be displayed in our main hallway.

Full Remote Learning - until 1/4/2021

As Dr. Bartelt shared in his message on Monday, 11/16, District 13 will move to Remote Learning for all students starting on November 30th and resume the option for In-Person learning on January 4th, 2021.

Winter MAP testing - January 2021

This year, Winter MAP testing at Westfield will take place in January rather than December. We are currently planning to administer the MAP test during the 2nd or 3rd week of January. We will proved exact dates as we move closer. We ask that all parents encourage their child(ren), grades 6 - 8, to approach the MAP test with confidence and to put forth their very best effort.

This year, our MAP testing data will also be used by Lake Park HS to help determine appropriate class placements for our current 8th graders. Traditionally, Lake Park conducts their own testing (PSAT8) to assist with placement decisions, however Lake Park HS did not administer the PSAT 8 in the fall due to health precautions related to COVID-19.

Attention 8th Graders - Message from Lake Park HS

The following link contains a message from Lake Park East High School Principal, Mrs. Amanda Brode-Rico and Associate Principal at East, Mrs. Jessica Foster, talking about why it is so important that the 8th graders take their MAP exams seriously this year. (click here for video).
