Speaking of Dr. Braun...
My name is Carla Braun, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal at Glen Oaks! I am so honored to be a part of the amazing Glen Oaks Family. I have loved every second of meeting your children and all of you these past two days. We really have an extraordinary group of students.
Here’s a little about myself. Over the past eight years, I’ve taught 3rd grade, 1st grade, and 5th grade. I’ve been a professional development leader through the Metro Chicago Math Initiative through the University of Illinois in Chicago for 7 years. I hold a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. I am dedicated to the growth of all of our children and have high expectations for all.
Please know that our doors are always open to each and every one of you. We look forward to getting to know you all! Let’s make this year the best one yet!

Student Council News
Welcome back! We have already started collecting Box Tops for Education. Each student should have received a collection sheet. The sheets are due on October 1st.
Student Council election petitions to run for offices will be going out this week and are due August 30th at 9:00 a.m. Only 4th and 5th graders may run for office.
The offices are:
President (5th grade)- leads Student Council meetings, makes announcements, etc.
Vice-President (5th grade)- steps in if the president is absent, helps the president, etc.
Treasurer (4th or 5th grade)- helps Ms. Vittorio with the Student Council money and collections
Secretary (4th or 5th grade)- takes notes at all of the meetings and helps to write the announcements
Interviews will be conducted during lunch and recess the week of September 4th. Elections will be held the week of September 10th.
This year we are also collecting Coke points. The program has changed, but we can still earn money by collecting codes from bottle caps and cases of Coke products. A bottle cap is worth .05 and a 12-pack is worth .15. You can either log in to https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and select Glen Oaks Elementary School, Hickory Hills, IL or send them to school and Student Council will log them in.
Remember even if there isn’t a contest going on Student Council collects: Box Tops, pop tabs, and Coke points all year long. Box Tops and Coke points will help to buy carnival prizes for the end of the year!
