PEAK OF THE MARKET

SMS students sold $21,500 worth of vegetables!

If you haven't picked up your order, please contact the school at 204-326-6481.

Some highlights of our POTM drive!

  • Top Overall Sales Prize went to Ryder L. from 6N.
  • Top Sellers for each Grade: Grade 5 - Paul M. Grade 6 - Revekka G. Grade 7 - Josh B. Grade 8 - Adriana H.
  • 17 students earned their way to WE Day by having the highest sales of vegetables given for donation to Southeast Helping Hands and Soups On! Our school donated 6000 lbs. of vegetables!
  • Thank you to all the businesses who donated prizes as little incentives for our kids to keep on selling vegetables - for every $50 they sold, they got their name put in a draw and every day we picked 10 names for these prizes.
  • Thank you to the parents who volunteered to come and help with our veggie fundraiser.
  • We look forward to providing our gym with a new scoreboard, buying a new fridge for our canteen, and doing some more work on our outdoor classroom in the spring. This fundraiser also helps subsidize the cost of field trips,

Thanks to everyone who supported our Peak of the Market Fundraiser!

A Special Note from HPETA (Hanover Physical Education Teachers' Association)

Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in the Hanover School Division:

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our students a very active and healthy school year. We extend best wishes to all of our student athletes, coaches and volunteers, as they embark in their new seasons of Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Track and Field, Soccer and other sports.

All new parent volunteers are reminded to get their required criminal checks done, if they have not already done so. Our school division requires this of any parent volunteers that drive, or take part in any extra-curricular or school based activities. Please see your school Administrator or Physical Education teacher for these forms.

A very important note to all parents: students are NOT to wear any form of jewelry during their Physical Education classes. Students are asked to remove all forms of jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings and studs—of ALL forms, and any other fashion jewelry). Dangling and obtrusive jewelry pose very serious safety risks, during any form of physical activity. The Safety Guidelines for Physical Activity in Manitoba Schools clearly states in its guidelines and protocols, that wearing any form of jewelry IS NOT PERMITTED. Jewelry that cannot be removed and which presents a safety concern (Medical Alert Identification) must be taped over. Medical Alert jewelry is the only form of jewelry that will be permitted in Physical Education Classes, or extra-curricular programs. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in regards to this matter.

Wishing everyone a fun, safe, educational and successful academic and athletic school year.

Reminder!

Please be reminded to call the school when your child is absent for any reason. If we don't receive a call from you, you will receive a phone call in the morning asking you to call the school or send a note excusing your child's absence. You may also email the school office (hfriesen@hsd.ca) with your explanation if that is more convenient. Thank you!

WE Day

Empowering Young People to Change the World

We Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. We Schools is the year-long program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational social change.

Together they offer young people the tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower others and transform lives—including their own.

We Day is a powerful, life-changing event that combines the energy of a live concert with the inspiration of extraordinary stories of leadership and change.

We Day brings together world-renowned speakers and award-winning performers with tens of thousands of young people to celebrate their contributions and kick-start another year of change.

We Day has evolved from a single event nearly eight years ago into a series of 14 stadium-sized events held across Canada, the United States and the UK. This past year, 200,000 students attended We Day and left inspired to create change at local and global levels.

SMS is thrilled to take approximately 20 students to We Day on Friday, November 18th!
