October Newsletter

We have started recorder practice! All students go to music every Thursday afternoon to practice their recorders. We will have a concert later in the year, all parents will be welcome to attend.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Parent-Teacher Conferences next week. Our Monday folders were especially full this Monday so I didn't send the confirmation letters home, didn't want them to get lost in the shuffle! All confirmation letters will come home on Tuesday in the homework folders. I did my best to accommodate everyone's 1st requested time. If your assigned time won't work, please email me and we can figure out something that works.

Thanks so much to Mrs. Bohan for taking the lead as our class art docent this year! We've been having so much fun on Fridays this year thanks to her hard work and help.

If you'd like to help out on Fridays, please contact either Mrs. Bohan ( or myself. Let us know when you'd like to come in and help out, or if you have an idea for a project. Special thanks to all the parents who have come in already to give us a hand, I appreciate your help!!

We are starting our next unit in Math this month. We'll be working with time and measurement.

Here are the essential questions from unit two:

What are some strategies to make a reasonable estimate?
How is time measured?
How is weight or mass measured?
What are some efficient methods to add and subtract?
What are some models to represent addition and subtraction?

We will also continue with our times tables test each Friday. All students know what number they are studying and have a set of flashcards to help study at home.

Ear Buds

If your child has a set of ear buds they can leave at school, please feel free to send them to stay in their desk. We occasionally go to the iPad lab and it's helpful for students to stay focused with the ear buds on.

If you don't have a set that can stay at school, students can buy them from me. Mrs. Grauer told me they're available at the dollar store for a buck, so I can collect the money and buy them if parents can send a dollar.
